Hi ladies, I'm thinking of getting some tulle/organza off the well known auction site and doing drapes across the walls and ceilings in my reception venue as the walls are orange and exposed brick and won't look right with my purple colour scheme. I was just wondering if anyone had done the same thing or was thinking of doing anything similar and has any tips/recommendations?

I'm sort of the same as you - as we're having a village hall we have got a marquee company to come and line it for us and then i will use bunting to go with our theme xx

How much is the marquee company charging you? Samantha, it's not quite orange, it's more terracotta and there are some notice boards that need covering really.

It's working out about half that for 100m of organza, so I'm thinking it's quite a good deal now, but still a lot of money

I was thinking lights behind the drapes behind the top table, but it's the material that's expensive. And it's a lot of material to have left over after the wedding... Arrrrgggghhhh!!! I don't know what to doooooo!!!

The room is 14m by 8m, not too sure on the height. The owner is going down in the next day or two to find it out for me

is it just because you think it wont go with your colour scheme? People wont tend to look at the walls but if you feel conscious about it i would:
see if theres something you can hang some draping from but alternate it with a space. Down the walls you could drop strings of fairy lights - you can get them cheap. If there is wondow sills you could put tea lights on them.xx

Kind of. It's the notice boards as well, slimming world and brownies etc etc. the colour really won't match and I keep thinking about it. I'm only gonna do the wall opposite the windows and the wall behind the top table, so wanted the lights on that bit. Don't think that just fairy lights would cover it. Thankfully Christmas is coming up so lights won't be too hard to find, just want it to look quite glamorous seeing as we're doing it on a budget. Just want people to say wow when they walk in.

If its just the notice boards you are worried about, can you not just cover them? Maybe do a collage of pics of the two of you, or things from places you've been etc? Stick it to card the size of the notice boards and then it's quick and easy to put up or get rid of after?xx

We have thought about that. But it's hard to think of anything that would go over it without ripping, plus there's still the colour of the wall and the ballet barre that would still be visible. The terracotta is really quite vile but we can't afford anywhere else

I would be careful about what material you are using, make sure it isn't too see though! I would hate to think of you going through all that trouble for you still to be able to see the wall behind it. What about sheeting? Or curtain lining? You can get some that are really wide, you would have to hem them but they will be thicker that tulle

I'm going for a coloured material anyway, so hopefully it shouldn't show the wall too much. I'm considering putting fairy lights underneath all of it as the netting isn't too badly priced.

Well been back to the venue today, and got the measurements off the owner for the longest wall. And from looking at the venue again today decided that that was the only wall that needed covering as the end wall is completely bricked apart from a little arch in the wall that can be decorated differently (flowers and mr and mrs sign?) so therefore it works out I only need 8 pieces of material at 3ms each and through dun elm it should only cost £36! Maybe I can afford fairy lights underneath after all??
