We have a three tier cake being made but Im thinking of upgrading it to a four tier, the fourth tier being fruit, just so I can keep it. How many of you are keeping a tier of your cake? It's another £30 just for this top tier which will be small!

It's entirely up to you, I no tradition is to keep a layer for your child's christening. I'm not keeping any of mine, I hope it all gets eaten. But then again I dont want children for a fee years and dont want to be stuck with a cake that I might not use. X x

As nina said a lot of cake won't freeze anyway, and those that freeze can't be kept indefinitely. I have no interest in this tradition, if I have a child they will be getting fresh cake at their christening.

If your going by tradition, i think its the top tier your so-pose to keep. I know my grandma kept her's and freezed it for ages! Personally... If i took the top bit of the cake home.. I'd eat it! Haha x

We kept our top layer, which was the only fruit cake we had. I took all the icing and marzipan off it and wrapped it and popped it in the freezer. Unfortunately, when we moved house a few weeks ago, we had to defrost the freezer before leaving the old flat, so we lost the cake :(

We took our left over tiers into work as we knew there was no chance of us managing to eat three cakes between two of us ... My mum had the fruit tier and she gave some to everyone who visted her for the next six months!

It is entirely up to you if you want to keep a layer or not, If you are having children it is nice to use at their christening or on your first anniversary. We're not keeping any as we're only having 18 guests, so we're only having a 1 layer cake x

read that as lawyer and was a bit confused haha

I think we'll just end up keeping the toppers, and get the rest eaten lol. It's only gunna end up taking up room. I like fruit cake, but he doesn't so even if we ended up keeping it for an anniversary, it wouldnt get eaten (well, Id eat it, and get fat), and we're not in the slightest bit religious, so there'd be no point keeping it for a christening either.... dunno really, can't say Ive given the cake any thought past the toppers... which I forgot to keep my eye on with my bid on the bay. Bah

Would it not go off? I don't know how long you can keep these things before it starts tring to walk off a plate with a new colony of mould....

I'm not keeping the top tier but I might keep the bottom for our first anniversary. If all your layers are stacked and sponge then I'd check that they can make a top fruit tier. I think it's too heavy and will sink into the layer below!!

We're not keeping any. It wouldn't last the year to our anniversary or the birth of our first child. We would eat it. Also, no where to put it.
