I think it depends on various factors inc number of guests (personally, I'd so a sit-down meal for over 50, as I think otherwise it can take guests ages to be served), the style/feel you're going for (eg formal or relaxed), the venue, etc.

same as above I'm having a buffet just cos there are so many fussy eaters they can pick what they want and I won't be stressed with the picky eaters

Im worried about fussy eaters, a few people on my h2bs side are vegan and dont eat loads of stuff - I swear they think boiling a carrot is an act of crime!

We're having our starter and dessert served to the table, and our main as a buffet, as that way everyone is happy, but we don't have to forked out a lot of extra cash to provide people options (picking the main course was just not an option for us. We have a lot of people who either don't like red meat, or else are picky about how it's cooked (eg I cannot eat mine well-done, same with my dad and brother and a few others, but my OH and his family won't touch it if it's even slightly pink, etc), so would have ended up with chicken which I don't enjoy and find boring; so, we wanted to give people a choice.

However, we are having somewhere between 44 and 52 guests, inc us; if it was any more, we would just have to swallow the extra cost, and provide a red meat, a chicken, and a fish option for guests to choose from, as I think that a buffet for more than 50 just doesn't work very well.

In the evening, it'll be a buffet with a selection to please everyone.

It will all depend on the number of guests you have and how formal and traditional you want it.

We're having a traditional English wedding with a Chinese theme for the colour scheme and deco. So with 100 guests we're doing a traditional sit down 3 course wedding breakfast and hog roast buffet in the evening with wedding cake served up in the evening too. H2B wanted a chocolate fountain but I think it'll just be overkill and far too much edible stuff.

    xx

We are having a sit down Meal for 80, and a hot buffet at night. I'd definitely NOT have a chocolate fountain, as much as I LOVE chocolate, they are sooo messy! I had a tiny wee amount at a recent wedding fayre and it went everywhere!

We're having a BBQ in the day as our wedding is in beautiful gardens and the recpetion will be in a marquee and we felt a BBQ would suit the venue the best.

The first thing you need to do is decide on your budget.

The order you've written the choices in is usually the cost order that they go in with a hog roast being the cheapest and sit down meal being most expensive

Its depends on the atmosphere you are creating for the day too....

We are having a sit down 3 course meal for 80 people but want a full roast dinner with Yorkshire puddings so fairly traditional and formal... however for the evening we are doing a cheese, pate and crackers buffett. My brother got married this year and they did afternoon tea for 60 people which was scones, cakes and sandwiches then a hog roast and salads for the evening and was lovely too xxx

We've chosen a 3 course sit down meal and my feeling was that if they don't like something on the menu then tough =P It's really hard to cater to 70 peoples taste so someone is bound to not like something no matter what you do. We're also having sausage and bacon rolls for the evening and some veggie things for the vegetarians x x
