whats the ruling on top table plans please? i have my brother giving me away but my dad will be there.my parents dont really talk so prob put my dad with my sis and family..(both our 2nd weddings and dad is fine with this).my best man and cheif bridesmaid know each other but no one else...my daughter, niece and pal(other bridesmaids)know mum and brother so should i sit them near each other.dont want to take bridesmaids away from partners/family etc and alternate them between people they dont know, would rather seat them near people they feel comfortable with on the top table..dont know what to do..! would like bm's on top table.

    Traditonally it's ...
chief bridesmaid, grooms father, brides mother, groom, bride, Brides father, grooms mother, best man.

But you do as you please. My family and my OH family don't really know one another, along with a lot of our friends as I grew up in Spain. I've got the issue of ensuring that I have some form of translator at certain tables!

Just remember that there is no point in doing something that won't work for you and your guests but remember there is no point in sitting guests with people they already know weddings are about coming together, and what better way is there then to meet new people!

yes i understand this and have mixed people up a bit on the other tables that are round and have 8 people on,but the top table is oblong and wanted to put at least one person on one side of everyone that they knew.My mum is 82 and partly deaf so sitting her next to the best man who is my h.t.b. best mate is not a good move.He knows htb sister (cbm)and has met my daughter(another bm).My niece would prob like to be near my daughter or her nana.Maybe I will just do what I think is best and sod the tradition! lol!
