    Hi all,
My dream is to bake my own wedding cake! Has anyone else done this/ is doing it? My H2B and I have agreed on a style for it, and we'd really like it to be three tiers. I've been watching Amazing Wedding Cakes in order to get some tips/inspiration, and it's been so much fun! Quite helpful too!
What I need to know, though, (and hopefully someone here will be able to help me!) is how big my tiers need to be! I'll buy new cake tins to do it in, as I don't think I have anything big enough, but I'm not sure how big they should be. I'll get round tins, and we need it to serve 70-100 people... what size tins will I need?! Does anyone know??

Im having 3 tiers, a 6, 9 and 12 inch but my cakes going to be square. We've got 120 guests but our cake lady said that you can always downsize as not everyone eats cake and your only ment to get an inch square of cake per person ( i thought they we're just being stingy, i LOVE cake lol).

I have to say i do admire you for making your own, good on you xx

It depends how many people you are going to make it for...standard is usually an 8',10' and 12' but everyone is different and everyone varies! your best bet is to look on cake business's websites for their prices/size guides etc for some inspiration!

I can make the odd cake but i wouldn't trust myself making my wedding cake!! I haven't done tiered ones YET and i get so stressed with myself if it isnt perfect and doing that 2-3days at most before the big day i wouldnt want to be in the same room as myself!! but good on you for doing it!!!

Good luck :D cant wait to see pics when it is done!! xx

Just bumped a thread which gives the rough portions you get out of each cake size - hope it helps :)

There are so many people out there who will tell you
    what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!

Ah thanks, that's helpful! I find baking really relaxing, so it should be good! Plus, I think I'll be more excited/nervous than stressed. I sure hope so anyway!

Wow your brave, I couldnt even do my own cupcakes for my own wedding!
All the best x If its your first time in stacking cakes I would have a practice on this as it may sink....or cheat by hiring a tier stand or dividers. I had a 4tier sponge and only wish I had a fruit as none touched the big cake with the cupcakes! I was told but didnt listen :)
