So, I just made an Excel spreadsheet for our budget, so that we can know exactly how much we should dedicate to each thing... I was looking up average prices for everything and oh my gosh! I didn't realise quite how expensive everything is! This is freaking me out quite a lot now! Eek! My parents are paying for the wedding and I don't want it to seem like I'm taking the pee!

Average prices include the very highest prices with the lowest and don't really give a true picture of how much is spent on weddings. So it'll compare those that spend 20,000 with those that spend 2,000 (the average of those figures being 11,000 - not really representative is it?). I would start a budget based on the cost of what you actually want for your wedding rather than the averages. Check out brochures for venues your interested in and don't overlook the packages.

Remember average price is just that, an average. This means that you can spend much less than this. The way to set a budget is to choose a figure you are comfortable with not what you think you should spend

Shop around and you will find services far cheaper that way. My whole wedding car package with 8 seater limo, Chrysler 300 for groom and a Beauford vintage wedding car for myself is only £350! The Beauford alone was £350 some places!

i have an spreadsheet for my entire wedding it has 17 tabs along the bottom and if it wasnt for the spreadsheet I wouldnt be able to keep track of it all everything to do with the wedding is on that.... Everyone's weddings are different and it doesnt matter how much money you spend they are special to you and you and your H2b are the main people in the wedding, search what you want and how much it will cost and then go from their... We are lucky and have a budget of £25,000 - £28,000 but if we didnt we would do it for just the amount we have. Everyone's wedding is wonderful whether you spends thousands or hundreds - you could save money by using advantage of sales, making things yourself and also the bay of e but the other brides on here can always offer advice to where you can find things good luck in your planning xxx

If your mum and dad are paying for it all why not ask them what is the total budget they're willing to let you have, then decide if you're able to put and extra towards it and if h2b's parents are contributing etc. After that I' try and get as many quotes as possible and try and play one off against the other. Some venues do package deals with a lot of things included. There are so many ways to keep costs down. This site is fab for ideas. Just do a search on which ever area you're thinking of booking and I'm sure you'll find lots of posts to get ideas from, if not then create your own and then we can all share :) xx

Yeah, we have a budget of around 7k.

We kept costs down by having a smaller day do (fifty) then more on the night as its the day dos that cost the most per person.

I have never understood how the average wedding cost is calculated. It's meant to be like 15k or more, but I don't know of everyone personally who has spent that much?

Ooh what I would do with a 28k budget! xx

first of all, i LOVE that you did the same as me - with an excel spreadsheet!
I was horrified too when I did it,but it helped me see what I could do without... and have managed to cut about £3000 out of it. I am getting ideas on things I can do myself in stead of paying for which helps too!

Dont panic too much! You should be able to knock at least a couple of grand off by shopping around and there may be other things you might not actually need to pay out for. For example, my venue provide centrepieces, napkins, table cloths etc. in their package. So that knocked a couple of hundered off my budget straight away. There are loads of ways to save money an average amount is just that. It is comparing two extremes so can come out very different to reality xxx

Sorry I havent read all of this but would definitely suggest you look at weekday and/or off peak times to get married to keep the costs down if you're concerned. If you let the guest know in plenty time then most people will make the effort... and lets face it, everyone loves a long weekend!
