OK, so I'm wondering the best way to store our marriage certificate - it's longer than A4 so we can't just file it away like other documents - I think framing might be too cheesy and I've seen scroll boxes but I'm paranoid about rolling it in case it gets squashed - we got copies done which are what I've sent away for name changes, as we didn't want to possibly lose or even fold our original that we signed on the day! Argh what to do!

I think you can buy some pretty scroll holders in silver, maybe look on the bay, amazon or in the big department stores xx

Think I've had an idea, might buy a cheapish card one for now, and use some of the dowel we have left over from our sweet trees to roll around, then tie with the same ribbon we used for our table plan tags - then when we go on honeymoon next month look for a certificate box from there so we can use this one for the signed copy, and keep our copies in the cheaper first box!

i have no idea where mine is now and i only got married 2 months ago! once it came back from the dvla i just gave it to hubby and said 'you deal with filing, do something with it' haha.
bear in mine, the majority of places now want to see the real one, and wont accept copies. especially the dvla, and they don't even send it back recorded.. just normal post!
xx

DVLA accept a proper copy, which is one you get from the church or registrar on a proper certificate - we asked for 2 of these so we could send these away and kept the one we signed during the service as I don't want it getting lost!

Ah that's good to know. So can I get extra copies on the day? Or do you have to order copies after the wedding?
CommentAuthorInDreamland
Yes, great idea, I'll definitely be asking for copies on the day if I remember or order after so I can change name but keep the actual signed one. x

If it's a church wedding you ask afterwards, registrar can give them to you on the day if you arrange in advance - it's £10 per extra copy but I felt a lot better using those to fold up and send off rather than worrying about the one we'd signed on the day!

We didn't get a signed copy? Should we have? Dont know what to do with ours either. Will get a new organiser today I think to put all of our 'married stuff' in.

Brill, will ask when we speak with the registrar next. Yes definitely want a couple of copies to save the worry!

I think I will ask priest who registrar is so I can request copies in advance.

Hi Jen, I meant the certificate you and your hubby signed on the day, you automatically get that one to keep - the copy looks exactly the same except the registrar folks it all in for you, and writes your name where you sign on the original :-)

We bought a couple of extra copies so that I could send them off when changing my name (instead of doing one company at a time). We bought a safe to store important documents in - so all copies are now in there, along with passports, driving licence etc.

Erm, mine's still in the envelope it arrived in from the USA! I guess I should do something with that. Ooooh, maybe I could get it framed for 1st anniversary present for hubby!

Ah thanks Becky - I was a bit confused there lol. I've only changed one name so far (credit card - heehee - most important one!) It's so blooming complicated to change names. Will photocopy the certificate when we're back from honeymoon to sort out, but at the mo it's just on our bookshelf.
