Gosh, it's been so long since I started a discussion that it's taken me about 5 minutes to find how to do it again LOL!

Well, it's our first anniversary next month and I have NO idea what to get hubby as a gift. I know traditionally it's paper, but it seems a bit rubbish to just nick a piece of A4 from my printer LOL!

So ladies...any ideas...oh, and in typical UKB tradition, it needs to be on the cheaper side of things...
Things he doesn't like includes jewellery, he doesn't wear aftershave and he's always really difficult to buy for!

All ideas gratefully received! Thanks ladies (and gents, of course!) x

Ooh, maybe a photo from your wedding day in a frame, that's something for both of you and it's paper? xx

Glad you brought this up Little Kettle. It's our first anniversary on Monday (can't believe how quick the year has gone!!).
We got married at Gretna and planned originally to visit the hotel again for our anniversary - but tbh after talking about it, we decided it's a lot of travelling and expense for just overnight and a meal up there.

We've bought each other presents (he's got me a watch, and in true 'bloke' style, he wanted the latest Star Trek Blu Ray box set lol) - but I'd love to surprise him with an overnight stay somewhere. We're in Leeds so need somewhere in the north of England but not too expensive either. We're going to a restaurant for our anniversary but it would be great to surprise him then with the reservation. Any ideas greatly appreciated...

What about getting one of your wedding pictures painted?
I know a fab lady who is doing one for me for OH'S wedding present and is costing me 40-50 I think (will have to check emails)
I can give you detals if you like.

Or another idea is a boudior photo shoot that will be for both of you really, you to give you a confidance boost (not saying you need it just we all need one once in a while lol) and then him as he will get the lovely pictures of his gorgeous wife in her undies ;-)

We're plannign on going out for dinner on the evening of our anniversary - made all the more special because hubby's job are making him go over to their USA office for a month the day after!!! They wanted him over on the friday evening, but as we had to cancel our anniversary holiday to Holland, they are 'letting' him fly out on the Sunday now (plus he's managed to negotiate the 2nd week out there off so I can go and join him).

I like the idea of the photo, but the problem is that our Vegas pics were so disappointing (he looked like a plastic Ken-doll, cos they photo shopped him to death) and our lovely London blessing pics were from our blessing, a month later, so it doesn't seem right to use one of those - what do you think?

Nice idea about the painting Hails - can you send me details pls, just in case I find a pic i like LOL! I don't think I'm really up for a boudoir shoot, tbh. WAY out of my comfort zone - plus I literally have no nice underwear :(

found this after a quick google

Paper is the traditional gift for the first wedding anniversary. It can be hard to come up with ideas for gifts that prominently feature paper but are still romantic. But it’s not impossible. Here some paper gifts that will make your spouse swoon on your first wedding anniversary:
    1. Tickets
Pick up tickets for a concert, sporting event, theatrical performance, or even a second honeymoon. Just make sure it’s an event that your spouse will enjoy.
    2. Cards
A card you’ve made yourself or a personalized deck of playing cards with a sweet note inviting your spouse to play with you could make fine first anniversary gifts.
    3. An Invitation
If you’d like to make dinner or take your spouse out to dinner, you could invite him or her with a lovely invitation that you either make yourself or purchase. It shows you’ve put thought into the evening because you’re tending to the details and still including paper.
    4. Bouquet of Paper Flowers
Giving your spouse a bouquet of flowers always makes a big impression. A bouquet of flowers that you either purchase or, better yet, make yourself is an even bigger show stopper. Paper flowers are quite delicate and take a long time to make. Your spouse will know you put in a lot of effort. The best part: Unlike real flowers, paper bouquets never die.
    5. Newspaper
Track down a copy of the newspaper from the date and town when you married. Your spouse will be able to keep it as a commemorative item or you could even frame it and hang it in your home.
    6. Money
This one is a bit tricky. Some spouses might be offended or feel as though you didn’t put any thought into the anniversary gift. Still, money is made of paper, so it fits the bill. Plus, with money, your spouse could indulge in something he or she really wants. Read your spouse well and determine if this is the right gift for him or her.
    7. Scrapbook
A paper scrapbook featuring photos (which are printed on paper) that you have made for your spouse is a truly meaningful gift. It could focus on the wedding or document the entire first year – from the wedding to your first anniversary.
    8. Books
A novel or book of poetry that rings true of your relationship or has meaning for you as a couple is a great present for the intellectual pair.
    9. A Letter
Nothing says, “I love you,” more than a thoughtful, candid, handwritten love letter. It’s old-fashioned and sweet and will warm the heart of your spouse.
    10. You
Wrap yourself in nothing but paper or jump out of a nicely decorated cardboard box to give your spouse a real surprise -- and something lovely to unwrap!

    I like number 10! lol

I know! It's crazy, isn't it?! And in that time, I've been made redundant, got a new job, hubby's got a new job and now we're moving house in 9 days time! It's certainly been a roller-coaster year LOL!

Sounds like we've had a similar year Little Kettle - I lost my job last December, spent 4 months looking and started my new job in April. We're hoping to move house in the next few months.

Hi mym, try the Foxwood guest house which is in Carlton near Rothwell - it won Three in a Bed last year and me and hubby said we want to go sometime! If I remember the price including a huge breakfast was only something like 50 for the room (not per person) for the top standard rooms! That could be a nice treat away xx

I just stumbled upon this thread and funnily enough I am a portrait artist!

A painting of you both on your wedding day would make a lovely gift because canvas is pretty much paper! You can get websites that print photos on to canvas these days too which might be nice, I think paintings are always a bit more personal though!

Have a little look at some of my stuff if you like and feel free to email me on [email protected] if you're interested or need any advice (from an artists perspective) about anything at all!

I hope you find something perfect for your anniversary = ]

I emailed the local Las Vegas newspaper (the Sun) to see if I could get a back copy of the 15 Sept 2011. Unfortunately, they only hold them for 3 months, but she emailed me that front page so I can print and get that framed. :)

I fly on Fri 21 Sept, but hubby leaves on Sun 16th, the day after our first anniversary! Now I just need him to set up the printer so I can print it out and get a frame for it...
