I see most people seem to be regimental about what they are spending and what on

But, we've just essentially picked a venue, know its gunna cost a lot. And that's about it. I don't plan on having a budget for anything, naturally I dont plan on going stupid on anything, I plan on making a lot of the stuff myself, or delegating others to it

We're just gunna get it booked, and hope for the best, and just save our backsides off

Does going into it like this work, or should we really think about sitting down and thinking about what we are willing to spend on certain elements, as I have no idea what prices I should expect for DJ, photographer etc, so I wouldnt know a good/bad deal if it hit me in the face

Are there any realistic price ranges I should be looking at for certain things (specifically the DJ and photographer, for manchester)

And other than those biggies, could I just get away with winging the rest and hoping for the best? Has anyone else gone into it like that?

I would suggest having some form of budget and limit to spend on each element of the wedding otherwise you can lose control and before you know it you've spent £30k!!!!

Prices can really vary depending on exactly what you want from your suppliers. I've found it helpful to ask ladies and gents on here for opinions on the quotes I get before booking suppliers.

    DJ - I am paying £275
Photographer - I am paying £1995 (amazing package and photographer - worth spending on this as you will have the pics for life)
Cake - £400 - 4 tiers, roses between each tier and as topper, double cake board and base.
Transport - £700 for two cars, my bridal car (Bentley) and support car (7 seater Mercedes limo) - will be doing a lot of mileage

    I am in Essex though.

Holy moley, that much for a photographer!? and here was me thinking it'd be a few hundred quid, however I did have a thought last night, one of my mates is a camera man, im sure taking pictures cant be too much different from filming hahaha

Though it would be nice to have them professionally done... I think I better start pricing them up, I didnt think they could range that high in cost haha!

Yeah, I think at the very least I may need to have a rough budget outline, I have an idea of the venue cost, which is the biggie, Il have to start looking into it all

The boy said, his dad would do the photography, I asked him would we be getting a cardboard cut out of him for the pics then? Yeah, we wont be using his dad then hahaha

What I found best was to work out all the things I wanted for my wedding, write them down, next to them write down what you think would be a realistic price for them, then add on £100 as a buffer. Once you've done all this add up the totals and see what the final figure looks like, if it looks within reach then great but if it is a huge scary number then you can start looking through things to see what you are willing to lose or pay less for.

For example wedding rings - you can pay anywhere from £20 to £2000 for a ring you just need to decide what is comfortable for you. I budgeted £50 for my wedding day jewellery but have actually spent £4.97 (love the bay!) but because I knew there was £50 there if I needed it I could have used it. If you just buy as you go along you might find eventually you don't have money available for something really important to you because you have spent it on something else that you might have been willing to go without.

If you have a smartphone there are some really good free wedding apps which will help you to start a budget. I have mine in an excel spreadsheet and it's very easy to keep track of. Also if you budget for something that you are then able to get for free or a lot less then you have extra spends for yourself! Bonus!

The photographer is one of the things that you really need to get right as you have and look back on your wedding photos for the rest of your life. My sister paid £500 for hers but only get the digital images on a disc and nothing else. I don't think they were even edited, ours will be editing our pictures if we want plus we get a main album, two replica parent albums, 4 mini albums, thank you cards and an engagement shoot (including a print from the shoot and all the shots on a disc) plus all the wedding photos on DVD set to music and CD to upload to FB. My sister got none of that so it is possible to get a budget photographer.

I have saved on my dress and outfit! I spent far less on shoes than I thought I would, my dress I'm so lucky that I bought the sample (that was pure luck!) so got it for £500 less than the RRP all cleaned so in total I will come in approx £300 under budget for my entire outfit :D

Ive got the excel budget sheet, i just took one look at it and my head almost exploded it was so daunting, so i might try to simplify it haha!

Yeah, I see what you mean about the photographer, I think that will have to be up there with the most important aspects of the wedding. I know for my dresses, il be hitting d'hams and the store of the british, try to find some offers, so im hoping i can get some deals there - my dress will probably be off the bay. The boy is going to be a pain though, Im not very organised, but Im a frugal shopper, he'll see a suit for £3,000 or something daft and just think I WANT THAT ONE.

    He's defo getting a budget!!

THe more i think about it, I definaltely need some kind of budget, even if its just simplified, in the long run its not gunna work just going at it without much thought haha

Lol. I devised my own spreadsheet (I used to be a Reward specialist so know my way around them).

Get H2B to hire a suit, it's generally cheaper, I will be getting H2B to hire unless he magics up a gorgeous cheap one ;)

You can get gorgeous dresses from bridal stores if you're prepared to get a sample dress. Mine was £999 down from £1500 but the same store has some dresses in there from £350 down from like £2k!!!

I dont mind having sample dresses or anything like that, I was considering a china dress, but Ive just been put off by the appalling service Ive just seen another member have!

I doubt the boy will hire a suit, I know he'll just want to buy one, I will however attempt to broach the subject with him.

I think I am going into it a bit blind too. I have no idea what things cost, where to get married / hold the reception, or anythin really. I have guestimated rough costs going off what you guys seem to have paid for things on here but thats it really. When we get back off holiday in a couple ofweeks I will look at it more seriosly and start looking at venues etc.

I know a fantastic photographer based in Manchester. She has done several friends of mines weddings an I am probably having her too (but secretly hoping two other photographer friends of mine will offer to do it as a wedding gift lol). I will post a link to her on your wall. xx

We done this booked the venue. And then sat down
An worked out what we were prepared to pay for
Certain things. Then took the amount of months till or wedding
    (33) an came out with we would need to save £450
A month to get the wedding we want.
I've also sat down and Phoned load of place and
Got quotes and one some things we were close and on other we
    Had over priced.
    I've started booking things already.
    Ie piper and magian.
I got my cars for 600 3 cars in total
My photos are £800 and that is special offer should
    Be 1200 xxx

We didn't really stick to any kind of budget. We knew what we wanted and then shopped around for quotes and ordered/bought. I'm a tight Yorkshire lass anyway so always on the look out for a bargain lol.

ive got mine itemized down to last piece of confetti lol
we have a spreadsheet that we both work off and feels so nice to see the money left to pay getting lower as we get closer also helps if you give yourself a buffer in case like me your car breaks down costs a fortune to fix etc.
hunt around and haggle thats my advice keep all emails so they cant go back on prices as well
