This is a thread to discuss what you think about the new law proposed that will affect wedding car businesses and increase the cost of your wedding.

I think the government are Preying on the not so wealthy once again. Only the well off will be able to afford this stuff soon, but they know that vulnerable people such as the bereaved will want the best and still pay for these cars out of guilt for fear of being judged as "skimping" on their loved one and they know that brides will pull out the stops to get the day of their dreams so it's an opportunity ripe for the picking to line their pockets. No wedding and funeral cars are not a necessity but they are just increasing the price of "luxuries" to the point where only the rich can afford them and forcing lots of people into lower standards of living.

Edit: yes some stuff may upset people InDreamland, but my view is Cut foreign aid to places that don't bloody need it instead of financially battering people living here and constantly bleeding the vulnerable, the poor, the elderly and the desperate. There, I said it *runs off to hide*

Adding special licences to these type of vehicles, let's face it, is a stealth tax. "ooooh look the people are still marrying, still burying their dead, with NICE THINGS. They must have disposable income! Tax them more!!

Yet more ways for the government to squeeze money out of hard working taxpayers. I won't give my views on what I think the government need to do to balance this country's books as it may upset some people but basically expecting car companies to obtain and pay for special licences is not going to make any difference at all to the economy but will make all the difference to those who are grieving or getting hitched.

Another not very well thought through policy proposal!

what can i say thats not already been said apart from this government is a flippin JOKE! OK so a wedding car isnt essential but then why should the less well off people of this country go without just so they can sponge yet more money out of us in unecessary taxes?! As for the funeral cars. Are they kidding me?! Preying on the greiving is just wrong! Come on Mr idiot in charge, we arent made of money!

No a wedding car is not an essential but how else can you get a coffin to the cremetorium/cemetery without a hearse ? Are we supposed to carry them all the way or get the local scrap man to take them on the back of his open backed lorry. Dont mean to cause offence to anyone with that remark but you have no choice when you have to transport a coffin.

i've signed the petition altho it wont really affect me as i'm staying over at where we having our wedding reception and if it was somewhere different we had free cars as a wedding gift from the best man as he owns a funeral parlour.. i already think they charge a fortune to hire the cars just because its a wedding/funeral. x

Hmmm, doesn't this fly against the Govts initiatives to try to encourage more people to marry, as marriage rates have dropped! Idiots!!!!
The average wedding costs something like £20k, us savvy (and skint brides) go for days between £3k and £7k. I barely managed to afford a wedding car out of that (notice I implied one, god only knows how the boo is getting to the wedding right now!!).

I know the wedding business makes millions every year, but how do we go about having the dream day we want, when we are going to get taxed on it???

xbox widow, not offensive in the slightest, its a valid point! My grandparents are pretty ill at th eminute, I don't know how long we've got my grandad for, now what little they have saved towards funeral costs will be eaten up by this, assuming they die at the wrong time. Makes my blood boil, how the hell is the economy supposed to recover when it is already to expensive to marry and die, taxes like this make things blooming worse!!!!!

And this morning I read an article about sending £1billion to other countries. Pouring water into a leaking bucket because lets face it the people that need it don't get it anyway because it is spent on corruption and war.

I cannot believe they are sick enough to tax hearses. As xbox widow said, there is no choice but to use a hearse! As if people haven't got enough emotional and financial problems when someone dies suddenly they will now be stretching themselves even more. Disgusting, charging grieving people, taxing the dead just so the UK can continue to haemmorhage money.

    Hi ladies,

Glad to see we have a good discussion going. It really is awful. We also have a thread going on our FB page and it would be brilliant if you could share this with friends.

Will keep you updated on this new legislation, fingers crossed if we rally our troops it won't go ahead.

    Thanks

the people who will be affected most by this are those who are devoted religious and getting married in church.
when it comes to weddings the car is not essential as more and more civil ceramonies are being held at the reception venue and if the car price increases then the money you would save by having it at a registy office wont cover the car so everyone will do it, but to get from the church to venue they are still going to have to pay.

Its wrong to include funeral cars there is no other way for a coffin, everyone will be paying for cremations before the actual funeral, so we'll all be saying bye to ashes and carrying the ashes on the bus if the government has its way.

This is so bad! For a start, as soon as wedding is added to a title of something the price triples anyway so raising it even more is just going to cause more upset and trouble! So many brides cannot afford cars now anyway and have a friend drop them off as the charges are so high, so all adding a tax on is going to do is make it so these wedding car companies lose more money as brides will stop booking them all together!

As for taxing funeral cars, this is disgusting! Not everyone who dies leaves behind mountains of money to look after their family and pay for their transport costs. When my nan died she lived in a council house and had minimal savings, getting by on a pension every week, there was no inheritance or money other than her clothes and jewellery (which I wouldnt sell for the world!) so we had to fork out for the funeral which was very expensive as it was! Luckily we had the money to at the time, but for those families who dont just organising the funeral is hard both financially and emotionally and we all want to give our loved ones the best send off that we can. They are praying on the emotional feelings of people to make their money, when there are plenty of other ways to get it that wouldn't affect normal every day people.

Whoever came up with this should be ashamed of themselves! xxx

Its bad enough at the minute for me and my partner to save up for a decent wedding which will provide for all of our family and friends without anymore costs!

We've never been wealthy and a lot of the times my partner will only have £50 left of his wages at the end of the months just down to bills and buying a few things. I'm a saver, but being on an Apprentice wage of £100, its very hard. I've had to fork out £875 for a new car this week and borrow £150 off my mum to keep my head above water. Adding more and more costs on to what is meant to be the most happiest day of your life is stupid. All the Government want is money, they just want to provide for the people like themselves, nobody else. The people that can AFFORD to live that type of life!
