So, my sister apologized for the cake saga, turns out she had a pang of guilt or a change of heart, or my brother frightened her, not sure which, but she cancelled her holiday last night and texted me to say she was sorry and still really wants to make my cake. Her apology seemed genuine and I scolded her before Forum Poll

I'll be honest my brother was getting someone else to do it, for the tune of £500 due to the short notice, and the size of the cake, but she doesn't think she can make it exactly as it appears, and isn't willing to transport it to London understandably.
So what do you ladies think, save my brother the money and let my sister do it, let the other lady do it but know it won't be exactly as I want it or try to choose a completely different cake at this stage? I'm so confused ;(

I'd go for something else by the other woman hun, if your sister was so inconsiderate as to do that in the first place then who's to say she wont do it again? Also she might not have managed exactly what you're looking for either. Is your heart set on the design? there's lots of lovely cakes, I'm sure you could find one you love? x

I'll have to agree with Jill hun, your sister wasn't just inconsiderate, she was out and out spiteful and deceitful, who knows what other dramas she could engineer, I certainly wouldn't trust her at this point to not either leave you high and dry again, or just to make a horrible cake! Obviously you have more idea about her than we do, and how much influence your family will have on her actions. Obviously if she's committed properly to it then it's a neater solution to your brother having to spend the money! I don't know anything about your cake design, if she flakes again I believe there's a well known high street department store that can do cakes relatively cheaply in 7 days... although not ideal, a back up plan at least means if worst comes to worst you can have a cake on the day!

Personally, I wouldn't be able to trust her after all this. I'd stick to the other lady. And if she can't do exactly what you want, I think you need to find out which aspects of it would cause her a problem and then try to compromise on those aspects - you may not need a whole different design. x
To be honest I wouldnt trust your sister not to let you down again at the last minute. I would choose another cake for the lady to make for you hun xx

I agree with all the other ladies, I would'nt trust her after what she has put you through already. Its worth the money it will cost for the piece of mind that there will definately be a cake.

I agree with the others - I wouldnt trust your sister now and you dont want to be worrying if you will have a cake or not the day before. I'd have a chat to the new lady, see what she would make the old cake like, then decide whether to go with that or a new design Hope it all works out :)

I'm a big believer in giving second chances, however I don't think this is the time to do it. Get the other lady to do a cake for you to save added worry.

I would go with the lady as your sister does not deserve the opportunity to let you down again - I certainly would not risk it so close! You may end up with no cake on the day :(

Go for any other option that doesn't involve your sister. She has proven she can let you down on your most important day, don't give her the chance to prove that again. If she is so determined to make amends and do you a cake, maybe ask for her to do miniture cakes, or cupcakes that fit the theme. Or even let her do it, but still get another cake made by a professional. Just don't rely solely on her for this!! xx

My sister is going to do my hair for the hen party instead, that way if she wants to mess up or not turn up on that my brothers fiancé will be there to take over lol. At least she can feel she is doing something important. I also spoke to the cake lady, it's the flower topper she was having trouble making due to the consuming nature of sugar paste flowers but that doesn't matter as I had already purchased one off eBay in preparation for my sister initially. So the lady can do the cake I want, and my sister can fel important lol.
As for her putting something in the cake, my sister isn't all that intelligent. She couldn't poison a house plant, and I was intending on hovering but it doesn't matter now ^_^
