H2B and I are going to give notice tomorrow at our local registry office.
I'm really worried and nervous about it! What is there is some obscure question I/he can't answer? What if they're not happy with the length of time I've been attending mass at the Church we're marrying in which is a good 50 mins drive from home and say it's not been long enough?
Has anyone else been worried or had problems?

We gave notice before Christmas, it costs 70 quid ish. You are interviewed separately, then together. You are asked address, dob, what your fathers occupation is. Nothing sinister!! You need ID, we took birth certs, household bills and my driving licence. You aren't subjected to interrogation!! You need the name and address of the venue too.
Nothing to be scared about Hon xx

I was thinking about this earlier as I remember you saying you were going tomorrow. No advice to give but just wanted to say good luck, hopefully it all goes smoothly for you! xxx

Indreamland dont worry about it, we done our on monday and we getting married at a church too. Church is about 30 mins away from our house and everything was fine. Didnt ask us anything to hard but we only got done separately too.
Claire - did they ask about the Church being your usual place of worship? I was told it had to be so the past month I've been driving to the church we're marrying in for mass rather than going to my local parish church 5 mins down the road.

No, hunnie but it is the church that we go to. However it has only been since fab when i started taking the kids to mass. The priest at the church is the priest that christened me when i was a baby and has been the family priest for many years. We all moved to the church he at now when he left the local parish ( only 5 min donw the rd from where my mums live /i grew up)
Am sure you will be fine xx

Awww that's lovely hun!
The Church we're getting married in is where my parents got married and my and my sis were baptised - reason why we're going all the way back there.
Thanks hun - I hope so xx

We weren't seen separately when we gave notice and we were only asked questions about ourselves not each other, only questions like, address, DOB etc. Nothing to worry about!

Thanks ladies ......I'm such a worrier, life has been so stressful recently I'm worrying now that everything to do with me, H2B and the wedding will come crashing down around me too.
Hopefully tomorrow I will breath a sigh of relief.
Did you have to wait 15 days to get the marriage licence? Is it 15 calendar days or 15 working days? xx

I agree with all the ladies, you will have nothing to worry about. We've got ours in October when h2b gets some time off from Afghanistan. I'm a bit worried because we are moving and I've packed up lots of stuff and can't for the life of my remember where I put his decree absolute. He will be peed off if he has to send off for another copy, as we don't exactly have time on our side. Zoiks!
I can't wait until 29/06/2013

Thinking about it we took joint bank statements too, turned out we took far too much with us lolthey will tell you the date x
CommentAuthorInDreamland
Lol. Problem we have is that everything is online like statements and stuff so need to find something. Wonder if my mortgage statement will suffice, it's the only recent statement I have from a bank.
I just want to get my hands on the marriage licence.

Its exciting, then when you get to the date its ok to pick them up, I got mine then had to promptly send them off to the registrar that is marrying us, so didn't get to keep them for long lol!! so long as you have proof of address, and proof of identity it should be ok x
CommentAuthorInDreamland
Cool.
The priest who is marrying us told me that he has been asked by registrars to sign a document saying that the church is our normal place of worship so hopefully that'll be ok. He's not always been the priest conducting mass when I've been, he's only done it once when I've been going, it's a large parish so they have I think 4 priests. That's the bit I'm most worried about. If he asks me at least I can be honest and tell him I've been coming to mass there.
Can't wait to get it.

Thanks louait. It will definitely be a long wait!
Thanks MrsE 2b - I know the church is fine with us, the priest marrying us made it clear that the requirement to worship at the church you're marrying in is not a church rule but civil law. So he was happy for us to not attend but because the law of the land requires it he advised I attended mass there because of the registrar.

Uh-oh, am I missing something? I thought giving notice was only something you had to do for civil weddings, I didn't think you had to do it for Church weddings as well, I thought having the banns read was in lieu of it? Have I got that wrong? x
CommentAuthorClareS
Oo good luck for today :) we had no problems with giving notice. although we were so worried before hand, it couldn't have gone any better :). We went into the room together. Then one of us stepped outside wilst the other one was spoken to. We swapped over then went back in together. Was just a few simple questions and that was it. Well apart from handing over £33.50 each. Was all nice and pain free x
CommentAuthorSelinaK
BlackCat13 - you are correct, we are having a civil ceremony so had to give notice. The notice is put up n the local registry office for people to raise objection to. HOWEVER: my parents married in my mums local church in Lincolnshire, and because my dad, living in Nottm, couldn't make so many services prior to the wedding to hear the Banns being read, they had to give notice with the local super intendant registrar thingy. I'm wondering if it now also depends on area maybe? x
CommentAuthornatalie2614
I remember feeling this panic when we went in May, its not as bad as you think and the relief after is great! We got our stuff sent directly to the registry office rather than dealing with paperwork as we were moving house soon. All I remember now is the woman had pink lipstick on her teeth and I didnt have the guts to tell her!

BlackCat13 if it is a CofE church you dont have to give notice as that is what the banns are for, but for a RC church like what InDreamland is getting married in they have to give notice :) Let us know how you get on InDreamland xxx

Hmmmmm, similar to me and my sister.
With me, I booked church (RC church) who have their own registrar so they're sorting that out for the day and then we gave notice today at our local registry office as that is what you have to do if not marrying in a C of E church.
My sister and BIL had a civil ceremony in a gorgeous manor house but outside of the registration district we all live in. So, what they had to do is to call the registry office in the district they got married in to book the registrar to come to the venue to conduct the ceremony. Once that was all booked, they then went to our local registry office to give notice as you have to give them the details of the date and venue of the wedding when you give notice.
I hope that makes sense and helps.

Sorry, so basically, I'd suggest that you get your registrar booked for your ceremony first in Essex, then once it's all booked, go and give notice at your local registry office in Dartford. xx

Good call, That makes sense! To book the registrar do you need to pay it all up front? and what do you need to do to book the registrar do you know? Just call up or do you have to go down there with some paperwork or something?... should prob just do my own research really! Ha lol
Hi LeighS Getting married in Maylands golf an Country Club in Romford, how about you?

CommentAuthorInDreamland
Sorry sprucey - I'm not entirely sure about how to book the registrar for a civil ceremony as I'm having a Church wedding so our priest is organising the registrar for us (thank goodness). I think what my sister and BIL did was to just call up the local registry office that their venue fell into in Kelvedon to book her. I'm not sure what happens in terms of the paperwork though. I'm sure if you just call up your local one in Dartford they can explain it all to you.
Sounds like we're all local, I'm in Waltham Abbey, 25 mins drive on the M25 to Lakeside lol, my SIL2B lives in Shoreham Village near Sevenoaks. Romford isn't too far from me :D
