There are lots of smart ladies on this forum so I'm hoping someone can help.

Basically, I've asked my best friend Chris to do a reading at my wedding and I'm struggling to find something suitable. We have been mates since school even though I got him expelled (not as bad as it sounds and I'm not entirely to blame). It was him who introduced me and h2b. I wanted him to have an important part of our day but he can't be a bridesmaid as he wouldn't suit the dress and Gaz has always wanted his bil as best man, so I thought a reading would be great and he loves attention. The only problem is that all the poems are too soppy and that's not us. Chris wants to do the wolf pack speech from The Hangover, which would be hilarious but I don't think my elderly relatives would like it much.

We're looking for something suitable for a male to his female best friend. I know he is over the moon that Gaz and I have found each other and want to be together forever and I wouldn't be surprised if he introduced us because he knew we'd be perfect together. I was single for 6 1/2 years before Gaz and Chris has always wished I'd find the my Mr Right after seeing me get used and hurt by so many Mr Wrongs.

I hope somebody has some inspiration for me as my eyes are turning square from searching tonight.

    Thanks in advance ladies. x

Could he not write something for you? No copies off internet sites that doesnt mean anything to you, but something heartfelt from him to you as a couple?

    xx

I'm thinking about that but it may be too much like a speech and I don't know if that is appropriate for a speech. He told me a few things that he'd want to say but it sounded more like a best man speech. x

Some people do this, they have the best man speech then another person speaking. Doesnt matter if it is speech like everyone in the room will love hearing it anyway. If you are too worried tell him not to go over a certian number of words? x

Thanks Hun that's reassuring, I think you're right, everyone will prefer something heartfelt than a recital of someone else's thoughts and feelings. The more I think about it that is a really good idea. See I said there were some smart ladies on this forum and you're one of them. x

One of my best (male) friends is reading the union by robert fulgham ( i think thats how you spell it) its sentimental but not too soppy
There are a few funny wedding readings - try the two by pam ayers

There are so many people out there who will tell you
    what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!

Oh wow the union is brilliant. I think what I might do is ask him to put into words what he would like to say and then if that turns out to be a bit naff or unsuitable for a family audience then I have that as a back up. That's two smart ladies who have come to my rescue. I love the fact you can get an answer for everything from this forum. x
