So now I'm starting to realise why people moan about their inlaws!
I was chatting to my mil2b the other day who was asking about my theme, when I told her my bridesmaids would be in champagne her face dropped...if I could have taken a picture I would! She then came out with 'oh' & nothing. After a little silence I asked her what was wrong & she said, 'well, normally colours are much more of a contrast at weddings' & then glared at me!
Yesterday we booked the venue, for a Thursday, because it's a meaningful date & it's cheaper, when we told her she said, Oh I can't come because I have my hair done on Thursday's, normal weddings are on Saturdays! Then I suggested she have it done the day before, with which she replied she has her hair done the same day every week & didn't want her hair to look untidy by changing days!
I then suggested that she gets her hair done early morning, (I wanted her to stop with all the family overnight, where there will be a hairdresser but she insisted it was too far). Her response to this was that she could arrange that but if she did she would have to leave the wedding at 3pm as it would make it too much of a long day & she'd be too tired too enjoy herself. To this I told her that there would be a room at the venue for her & she could have a lie down when she wanted, to that she replied that we just wanted the 'older generation' out of the way so we could enjoy ourselves!
We pointed out that we wanted her to stop over with everyone else, but she has refused to stop in 'some strangers' bed for the night!...
I found this quite amusing last night, probably should have taken it more seriously but I'm not really a serious person! I can imagine how this gets to people after a while though.
I think everyone's parents have annoying traits, but if it's your own mother or father you ignore it because of who they are, it's only when partners get to know them & aren't used to their annoying ways that the fun starts xx
CommentAuthorSammi_with_camera
My gosh that's a new one, she doesn't want to have her done on the Wednesday because she doesn't want her hair to look untidy? that's the silliest thing I have ever heard! Im also having a very un-normal Thursday wedding! I am shooting a few Friday weddings this summer, I think weekday weddings are becoming so popular now. If she moans again say you will move it to the Saturday if of course she makes up the price difference! Of course she wont do this and your special to you Thursday date wedding will be safe! hehehe! xx
CommentAuthorInDreamland
My goodness, she's rather.......................inflexible and sounds like she is just a, how shall I put it, unique and different personality.
Thursday weddings a really common nowadays, my sister got married on a Thursday. I've been to other Thursday weddings too.
I like Sammi's suggestion for her to pay the difference for a Saturday wedding lol xx

Couldn't make it up really Bobsi, I had to bite the inside of my cheeks to stop myself laughing out loud! Xxx

Lol - glad I could make you laugh MrsC2be, I'm obviously on form today, make a great joke this morning in our team meeting, very HR kinda comment but made everyone crack up - given that at the time we were discussing the fact most of us are at risk of losing our jobs and therefore having a very serious conversation I'd say that was quite an achievement ;) xx

Who wants all doom & gloom though Dreamland, you've gotta have a giggle when you can.
If you're anything like me then you'll find it hard to be serious all the time xx
CommentAuthorInDreamland
I can be really miserable but I just blurted it out, don't know where it came from, was so silly too but everyone appreciated it and my boss even repeated it later today lol. x

Lol - the orgnisation is far too serious for anything remotely comical.
What venue did you book in the end after the fiasco with that snotty place? xx

It may well be the type of 'restructuring' it needs! Yay for silliness!
I went to Huntden, it was beautiful but we couldnt work around the minimum number thing. We've gone for Parklands, Quendon Hall instead. It's all the way out in Essex which has put certan relatives out but heyho, it's our day! Xx
CommentAuthorInDreamland
Oh no! Even on the Thursday? Thought their minimum numbers were much lower for mid-week, it's only Saturdays I thought that required 100 guests minimum. Glad you liked it though.
Quendon Hall looks lovely ...............lol .........you've come out my way for yours and I've come out nearer you for mine ;)

Haha, if it was any closer in date we'd be meeting in the middle!
You don't get it exclusively on Thursdays so that put us off too. Glad I've finally found somewhere though!
I think you're roughly at the same stage in planning as me Dreamland, so, let the planning commence! Xx
CommentAuthorInDreamland
Lol - we're only I think 7 weeks apart. My planning is slowing down at the moment coz of the job thing and also H2B will be starting his Olympics shifts next week which run through to 3rd week of September so I'll hardly see him.
Of course, I forgot they don't do exclusive use apart from Saturdays. Your venue does look lovely though!
Have you done much planning apart from booking venue and dress shopping? xx

Yes I bet your h2b is gonna be stressed to say the least over the next few weeks. You've got a lot going on at the moment Hun & I hope it all works out! Here's to the next round of wedding planning! It won't be long.
The only thing that's confirmed at the moment is venue & dress will be a close second. I'm trying to spread the rest of it out so I don't get anxious on the wait for the dress, because I know it will happen!
Where are you upto? Xx
CommentAuthorInDreamland
Thanks hun - fingers crossed things start to fall into place for us, H2B is rather stressed about the house thing at the moment and combined with my job stress and his job demands we're trying to not go crazy.
So far we have: booked church booked reception venue got my shoes booked photographer booked makeup artist (and hair) booked cars (waiting for confirmation but I see cheque has been cashed) got venue dresser and florist provisionally booked - just need to meet with her
I tried on 20 dresses so far We're in the process of getting cake quotes We're in the process of booking a DJ
I think that's kinda it so far. I have a spreadsheet planner that my sister helped put together using experience from her wedding that we're working to so that I don't get too overwhelmed with it all.

Ooo I'm away behind you then! I keep thinking that I'm doing things too early. I think because I'm a Thursday bride though I don't have as much pressure on me to get the good stuff booked up as you.
I'm really looking forward to booking my cake :).
I'm thinking about doing a spreadsheet, but we're having a few house troubles at the moment too, so am just sticking with the wedding folder for the minute xx
CommentAuthorInDreamland
You'll be surprised how popular the Thursday wedding is now hun. Also, time goes quickly so make yourself a plan so you can do things gradually and hopefully stress free.
H2B I think has enjoyed cake tasting ........we have more to come ...........bang goes my attempts to lose weight.
I'd really receommend the spreadsheets ...........I have loads, one for guest list, one for hen party guest list, one for planning including additional worksheets for the timetable of the day etc. and then the all important budget spreadsheet to keep tabs on the spending.
Hope you get the house troubles sorted out soon hun. xx

Oh you're so organised! I have everything in boxes at the mo because the house we were buying has fallen through so at mil2b house temporarily. When we're back in our own place though do you have the templates so I could make something similar?
What flavour cake(s) are you having? A little cake tasting won't effect your weight! Xx

She sounds like she just likes to be difficult for the sake of it, just laugh it off or she'll have you jumping through hoops to please her which I dont think you ever would x
CommentAuthorMrs P*R*C*2013
I have found it quite amusing so far Xbox, but I can see it becoming quite draining as time goes on.
If it starts getting me I'll just be sending her an invite & cutting out all the pre wedding discussion to avoid the stress! Xx
CommentAuthorInDreamland
Oh dear hun - I'm kinda upset about losing the house we were buying too, was confirmed today, it's irritating isn't it! Have been moaning about it on the general chat thread this evening. Hope we both find new houses soon!
Of course you can have my templates hun, not sure how best to send to you, whether can send over PM or ukbride e-mail or whether we need to exchange email addresses on PM and I'll send them over to you. I live by spreadsheets lol.
Maybe one of the Mods can advise how to send over the spreadsheets?

Cake wise we're planning on two sponge tiers - lemon for one and chocolate for the other than a top tier fruit cake. Or if the price is right to have the bottom two tiers the same but have the top two tiers fruit cake to make 4 tiers. Any idea what you want? xx

Lol. if she has her hair done on a Thursday and you had changed your wedding day to a saturday surely her hair would need doing again by the sat. I think she is just wanting her own way. Stick to what you want and if she wants to sulk let her. She will only make herself look silly.
CommentAuthorSarahB92
I actually chortled when I read that (i know it may be worng to do so) but lets be honest, you couldn't write that could you!!!
CommentAuthorMrs P*R*C*2013
Dreamland - I'm going to have any flavour but fruit, depending on how the budget goes, hopefully 3 tiers :). I love the sound of lemon though, can't wait to try some!
I will send you email in pm when I've found my laptop lol...living on iPad at the moment!
Leigh - she was saying that if she had her hair done the day before she'd have to wait too long (the following wednesday lol) to getbherbhair done again. Think she likes routine!
Sarah - I told my own mum last night & she was nearly on the floor, funny stuff xx
CommentAuthorInDreamland
Oh what a character! I'd love to meet her, give me a daily giggles dose which I believe is good for health ;)
Fab - let me have your e-mail once you're back on a normal computer. I want an iPad but cannot convince H2B or my dad that it's a good idea ...........especially when I may possibly lose my job. Must resist! xx
