I'm still not 100% sure about having one of these.. if we do we're going to do it ourselves but after speaking with my mum she's "not sure where it'll fit in" and "it could be expensive" it's making me think?!

We've kinda decided already about favours for our day guests but I thought it'd be nice to have something like this to almost break up the evening reception / give our guests another place to mingle with eachother.

Also, as we're getting married in autumn we're thinking of not having actual sweets and going for a slightly healthier option of dried fruit / nuts / homemade granola etc etc.. (sounds a bit boring compared to sweets I guess but we wanted something a bit different and these would defo fit in with our 'theme').

I need some help and advice!

Hiya pam hun for your jars try the likes of tesco n morrisons ebay and ikea also b&ms as thats where I got most of mine for coppers plus charity shops are good too ebay is good for your tongs and scoops hopefully depending on the jars your after u might be to get the lot for roughly £30-£40 you can probably use a round table and put it in the corner of the room and maybe use some led lights from £1 shop xx

It doesn't have to be expensive. We're making our own and just buying cheap vases from charity shops and ikea and such.
I also really like your idea of soing dried fruits and nuts as it's really different and unique. I say go for it :) xxx

We are having one of these and doing our own. Can get vases, bowls etc yourself, borrow or go to charity shops to pick them up cheaply. More things you have more expensive it will be. I have been buying bowls over a few months to spread cost a little. There are good packages on bay of e plus sweet bags, scoops etc. We are looking about £100 for 15 different sweets. OH is vegi so will have nuts and fudge etc too.

    Hope this helps

    Thank youu! All very helpful..

Brilly and Joanna - good idea about the cheapy shops.. maybe car boots too or is that a bit too cheap?! lol.. anything to save a few pennies. Besides, I kinda like the idea of them all being mismatched.

Vickie - spreading the cost over a few months is a great idea but I'd have to make sure I put everything somewhere safe so I don't forget what I've bought haha!

Are you all having favours too? or having this instead? Also, when are you 'opening' it? or having it there all day?

No I don't think car boots are too cheap, that's a good idea. I'm deliberately buying mismatched vases as I think it'll look really cool.
I'm going to have it open all day I think. I don't think we'll have favours because I think the sweets are enough xxx

I have got myself a wedding box under the bed where everything is going (may have another soon as nearly full) so I don't forget where/what everything is.

We are doing separate favours as the sweetie bar will be open in the evening for all guests, also saves money rather than having to restock what day guests have had, plus its something all guest can mingle at instead of separating evening and day.

Don't think car boot is tacky, if you don't say where its from no one will know. Might need a good wash but thats about it.

    Good luck

also if you find loads on one car boot stall you are likely to be able to get a good deal the more bits you buy. i know my h2b brings home loads of crap from car boots that he then pops on ebay to make a profit lol x

    Thanks ladies!!

That's what I like about the idea, for our guests to have another place to mingle.. away from the bar!

We took a trip to good old B&Ms yesterday and have got 2 nice jars for a couple of quid each. Decided to keep all the wedding stuff at my parents house as we're trying to sell ours so don't need anymore stuff lying around everywhere but I'm taking photos of everything so I don't forget.

Going to have a wander round Ikea this weekend and maybe even a car boot to see what we can find.. no doubt we'll end up buying stuff we don't need to clutter up the house with haha!
