Hi, Just wondering what everyone is having for music. I liked the idea of having a string quartet during the ceremony and as a background for the wedding breakfast, but the cost means we could only afford an hour so will have to make a decision as to when we have them. I would also quite like some kind of band in the evening…! What does everyone else have in mind? xx

Hi Tara, i would have loved to have a string quartet for during the wedding breakfast but we have no money in the budget for it, so i bought 3 cds and they all have famous love songs on them from different eras and they are played on the piano with no lyrics. I have listened to them all and have decided to use them as backround music - they only cost me around £10 for all 3 cds, and each cd comes in a set of either 3 or 4 meaning i got around 12 seperate cds for around £10. Much cheaper than a quartet!
Could you not look for something similar?

( Just read that back and realised it may sounds confusing to everyone else) lol

    xx

Hi Cheryl, I know it's so expensive! I've been quoted £450 for one hour and then another £100 per each additional hour. Your idea sounds good - what are you doing about music during the ceremony? What have you got planned for the evening music? xx

We will probably have similar music during the ceremony then a disco at night - we had enquired about having a band but we like all kinds fo music so didnt want to be limited by what a band had to offer. Have you started booking anything yet?

Hi Cheryl, no not yet - we've got quite a while to go but we're looking round a couple more venues this coming weekend and we have a good idea of where we want to hold it so will probably book that in advance as they give a discount for early booking. The other things I'm just enquiring about so we can get an idea of the cost but it all adds up!! I think I'll have to go one of the other, music during the breakfast or a band in the eve. Fern that sounds amazing :) Lou that sounds nice - will u be you be having music playing throughout the meal? xx

We are having 50s songs played through our own ipod with speakers. I bought 2 triple CDs for something like £4 each brand new from Ebay....they will play in the background while we have our wedding breakfast......and we are not having an evening reception so thats really all we need.

I did buy 2 Harp CDs too, and wondered if that might have been a better option, I always think wordy songs make people listen to the song and not actually talk.

we're having a civil ceremony and reception all in one venue and the rooms join onto each other. We're having a quartet playing as guests arrive and during the service. We were going to have them playing through the reception but don't think we can afford it. We've decided on having speeches first so may get them to play until the speeches start then get them to leave. After that I think we'll be playing discs, poss of their music if not then instrumentals of other slushy romatic stuff lol x

I would ideally like to have a marimba duet to play as my guests arrived and during the ceremony based on my choice of song for walking down the aisle (You're So Cool by Hans Zimmer) but also since they are really lively, but if the budget doesnt cover it then I'll be going cd.

Yeah I'm thinking maybe CD's are the way to go, but if we can afford it I'd love some live music in there one way or another!x

Yeah we have now decided that during the meal we will play the Harp Music CDs, as its gentle and easy to listen to and is just purely background music, then afterwards while we are drinking etc...(we're not having an evening reception with dancing) we will put on the 50s songs CDs....while people drink and mingle in the room and on the patio......weather permitting
