Ok so first off, it's been awhile since I've been on here (we just moved house) so how is everyone??

We (I) just decided on Friday that we weren't booking our wedding in Norwich on Sunday as we couldn't realistically afford it without help and whilst both sets of parents have offered/promised us this, I don't want to rely on it. So no Barnham Broom hotel for us, no, we've (I've) decided to go back to our (yes our lol) dream wedding of it being small and intimate and not in England, preferably gorgeous weather but I'm just as inclined to get married atop a ski slope (my poor dress might need a rethink though!)
My problem is, WHERE??? Everywhere I've looked seems to have interesting rules about it and we do so want to do it relatively cheaply, yes we are aware of accommodation costs and the usual outfit and meal scenarios but this surely must be cheaper than hiring out a huge venue for upwards of £4,500 just for a sit down meal, buffet in evening and a disco??? We'd only pay for ourselves and take no more than 10 people so meal-wise we're sure to save.
But can anyone offer advice as to what laws/ rules different countries have on a simple civil ceremony please? Luke and I want to marry more than anything and all I can say is, foreign weddings are a mystery to me that I want unclouded and simple facts on! Thanks so much for reading xxxx

Have you got any ideas where you might want to get married, at all? I'm happy to tell you all about a Vegas wedding ;) But I suspect this might not be what you're looking for (desert=no ski slope LOL)!

I want to get married on a beach ideally, its what we've both had in mind all our lives, it just so happens he only came into my life 8months ago! Lol :) we've discussed france, bulgaria (but you have to be a resident or something) tunisia (but you have to have blood tests and weird birth certificate rules...) I like the idea of sharm el sheik but reality will be something else I'm guessing. Not altogether sure but we need it to be affordable for those who will be getting on a flight to come both in cost of flight and accommodation. Does that make sense? xx

i'm going to cyprus too and i know for definite you can marry on the beach there!!

we're getting married in one of the town halls, which is beautiful. saying our vows outside. back to the villa for a wedding bbq and chill out. we're having 9 guests, plus us and our 3 kids. we are then having a blessing a few weeks later back home. the total spend for our wedding is coming in at around 7k, including our flights, villa rental, photographer, wedding cake, outfits, flowers, spending money etc and including the ceremony back home with another cake, decoration.

i could've done it cheaper and still might

Im in a similar situation to yourself JulieW20-both our parents have said they will contribute but didnt want to rely on that and realistically we couldnt afford the wedding we would of liked to have in the UK (costing upwards of £10k!!!)

We decided we would look into getting married abroad, cyprus is what we have decided on-and will be booking to get married there next year, I imagine there'll be less than 20 people and h2bs parents wont be coming...

We'll be getting married at the hotel and also having our reception there-you have the option of marrying in the ground overlooking the beach there or on one of the sea view terraces

So can anyone tell me the laws surrounding cyprus weddings please? Sorry but you guys are truly the best people to ask since you've done/ are doing it. Thank you so much everyone for this, my oh is smiling at the idea and the beach is ideal but if not, beautiful scenery and surroundings would be next best thing. Thanks again! xx

Heya :) friends of mine are getting married this year in Bordeaux. They only got engaged in March and it's booked for September so doesn't seem to be an issue with getting a booking. Think it's a package sort of thing where you get accommodation, wedding etc., all in. As guests we only have to pay to get ourselves over there and then some food and drink, but all else is sorted. She sent me a link so if you want to see the place let me know and I'll root it out for you :)

    hey julie

before you go, you have to get a letter signed from a solicitor saying you are free to marry. that's really all you need. 2 witnesses are needed to sign the register with you, but it's the same here too. oh and a valid passport, but you'd struggle to get there without that anyway lol

it's been really easy to arrange the wedding over there. i know some other countries need blood tests and to jump through hoops, but cyprus is easy.

the ceremony is done in english and the marriage certificate is also printed in english :)

if you need any other help, there are a lot of brides marrying abroad and quite a few (myself included) marrying in cyprus

Ha X3 so happy for you, please let us know how amazing it is once you've done it! Advice on where to book and who with would be really appreciated thanks and good luck! xx

Bride2be 2013 ah you're so much more organised than me, I can't decide which country let alone a month lol I envy your ability to plan so well! xx

Mrs S- believe me I'm tempted, several times I've looked at Luke and said shall we just run away and get married this weekend? I don't care, I just wanna be Mrs Ridley and be the lucky moo to call Luke my hubby :) on the other hand, we don't want to give up on our dream of marrying on a beach so I may just have to wait until we get organised! xx

Hi there Julie :) I think choosing getting married abroad was the best decision for us - it's not for everyone but if its what you want then go for it!!! it really does save money in most cases and there's also the fun of getting married and having a ready made honeymoon right outside the ceremony :) I hope you find the perfect destination for you. We have a few Vegas brides, several Cyprus brides - there is an official thread if you want to know more about Cyprus and there is a Vegas thread too - then there's a few France, Caribbean and Africa brides too.

As for us, we are getting married in Spain - we are having a quick civil ceremony at home in England to get our 'piece of paper' then having a full blessing on a mountain top. That was the easiest way to do it in our particular region of Spain without me having to move there first, but there is also Gibraltar, where UK residents can get married much easier.

Hi Julie, we had the same problem as you, and now have booked Lake Garda. Not quite the beach location your after but it is stunning! There is also a beach resort on Cilento called Santa Maria and that is as equally as stunning. I've never been one for a beach wedding, but pictures I see are gorgeous. A few people I know have Married in the Dominican, just remember that some people can't afford too go with you. Hense why we only have the 15 of us. Wherever you pick it will be truly stunning :) x

Africa bride which Atar mentioned :) We chose Kenya, they have gorgeous beach venues to be married but we decided to go for an animal sanctuary for something a little different but the beach venues are breath taking! Good luck in choosing - it took us a while x
