Is it just me or is everyone else worrying about how to afford their big day?? Our wedding is according to my ticker 3 months away but more like 4 if you ask me and we still have about 3-4000 left to pay, we never had any savings (pay as you go as I like to call it) or anything for it just some help from parents as its all been planned quite quickly had a little set back before xmas as h2b was made redundant and only just started a new job last week! I am starting to worry we won't get it all paid off in time as well as being able to pay our rent and bills etc our parents are helping towards the £800 cost of suits a long with the 2 best men paying for their suits, my mum still has a £1000 to pay off venue but feel bad keep nagging her even though I know she will get round to it eventually plus £300 to pay off my dress and £300 I have to pay myself theres also the photographer to pay £400 and more and more other little bits we have gone through our to do list with a fine tooth comb and there isn't anything we can cancel or cut back on as most of it already has deposits paid so we would lose money which we cant afford to do I'm close to selling a kidney if I'm honest we're getting that desperate now just can't see any light at the end of the tunnel
I know how you feel, I have the same problem - luckily my parents have stepped in to pay off some bits and pieces which helps massively. And H2Bs mum is paying pretty much everything towards the honeymoon too.
So we had to pay for the rings and kilts and bms stuff etc etc and now we have hardly a penny to live on. I had to drive my car on red last week cos I didnt have enough money to put petrol in :-/
Dont worry, you'll get there :-)

Your not the only one, we was supposed to get married on the 20th March this year. We had to move it back a year as we just couldn't get all the money together. Lucky for us our venue were very understanding and let us move it without cost and kept the original price. My parents were going to put £2000 in to it last month but decided my sister needed the money more so have left us short again. We are on such a tight budget to pay it now I am losing alot of weight so is my H2B.
Hopefully you will be able to juggle it and your day will be fantastic x x x
I asked him if he liked me on 20thMarch 2005, he said yes
He asked me to marry him on 20th December 2010
We are getting Married on our 8th anniversary at Nonsuch on

this is a constant worry for me!! the clock is ticking!!!
we have NEVER had any savings. and we're having a PAYG wedding too lol but i have to say i am really amazed at how weve managed to pay as much as we have. especially as we were always skint before.
i also keep changing my mind and keep buying stuff without h2b knowing. i think he'd string me up if he knew i'd bought another dress!!!
we've still to pay £750 for the villa, 400euros for photography, about £1500 spending money, transfers, flowers, h2b and best man's outfit, bm shoes, fg shoes, luggage, holiday clothes, WEDDING BBQ, 2 wedding cakes, buffet for blessing, decor for blessing, sweeties for blessing... OH. MY. ACTUAL. GOD!! we're NEVER gonna do this

worried doesn't cover it! We're ok now because we've worked out almost to the pound how much we need to save, but a few months ago I was having a real panic over how we'd afford it. In fact, the only reason we're managing as we are is because Adam is using the £1000 his nan left him when she died (we thought she'd have like that, she was so excited about us getting married and she's not going to be there to see it) and my mum gave us £1000 towards paying off the honeymoon! I've been paying a certain amount into the wedding fund every month, Adam has been saving elsewhere and is transferring his as and when he needs to, but I've worked out that there's still going to be about £100 discrepency in what we've saved and what we owe - looks like I'll be footing that bill on the credit card or something to pay off next month!! xx

so glad its not just me we are literally going to have to beg steal or borrow to get it all done at this rate h2b's mum has even said we can have the money she's saved for us to use towards honeymoon to pay off wedding bits but I really don't want to do that I want to have a nice honeymoon I'll need it after all this stress! H2b is like his in denial and just won't talk about it and I think seriously you need to come up with something too not just me worrying about it all the time and he barely even talks about how we're going to pay the wedding I feel so guilty asking family for money all the time as they give us so much already its making me ill I can't sleep, I grind my teeth through the night my skin is awful the one plus is I lost 6lb last week but still I'll walk up the alter and I'll be wrinkled and grey!!!
thing is, its not worth that much stress, is there any way you can cut back on what you're having? There were things that I really wanted, such as a sweet buffet and a croque em bouche for the evening, but I eventually realised that it was all unnecessary expense that really we could ill afford xx

To be honest I am not actually stuggling because from the very beginning I knew I was having a small wedding, and although what we are having is still going to cost money....its not a huge amount. If I was having a bigger wedding then yes I would have struggled to afford it. I am doing a lot of DIY, and finding bargains on Ebay, but generally speaking, I have not had to cut out much, because I kept to the guest list of around 20.....and I have found it manageable. (so far)
I can resist anything but temptation

We were in the same boat but now we have cancelled the photographer (losing £50 deposit) and are saving £150.00 by having a family member as DJ and I had gone for a cheaper dress. We should be able to manage it now without any stress but I know how you feel it is an uphill struggle!!!

We are in the same boat as everyone else, esp when my h2b is the only one bringing in an income so hes trying to cover the wedding and keep the house n bills going etc. We also still have quite a bit to pay for :S so i feel your pain. We too dont like asking family as like u they have already done so much for us already. Hope we all manage to get it all sorted and have our fantastic day without any worries :/ xx

Everything is booked and has deposits paid which we can't afford to lose :( just hoping things start to come together I'm desperately trying to find a job myself so we have some extra money but its hard as I have a 3 year old who obviously needs looking after too x
Sian thats the same reason im struggling to get a job cause hes at nursery right in the middle of the day and my h2b works nightshif and takes the odd dayshift aswell so finding a babysitter would be hard x I hope it comes together xx
I'm feeling the pinch too. We were originally on track to have everything just about paid for, but I had to take a pay cut at work and now I'm pretty much living hand-to-mouth. Luckily (well sort of) we have a direct debit for paying off our venue for a fixed amount each month, which has been really helpful, but I honestly don't know how I'm going to pay the rest. My parents have given us money, and his parents are paying for our honeymoon, so I know we are very luck in that respect, but I'm still so *so* stressed about it all :(
CommentAuthorSian''OCD''Holkham
hope it gets better for you at least you have 10 months longer than me lol x
I must admit we are paying as we go with our wedding it is tough every penny we have is going on different things for the wedding my poor H2B is working 7 days a week to pay for it all. It's almost taking away from how special it is because everything in on such a tight budget!
CommentAuthorMrsKisywisy
sian, if you are having doubts about your dress, there is always the option of cancelling it. obviously you'd lose the 400 you've already paid, but you wouldn't have that 600 left to pay. i know that would be a last option, but it's an option sweetie

We are the same, paying for everything as we go along. My H2B's self employed and his business is not doing very well, prob coz of the depression, and he is really worrying about paying for everything, we're only having a small wedding as it is (thru choice, as thats what I want) but he is worried he will be unable to pay for things as he is only just managing to live and not able to put any money aside for the wedding. I have told that it doesn't matter, as long as we can pay for the most important things, like venue, hotel and meal, the rest can be either left out or bought cheaper, not bothered if I don't have things like favours or table decorations, as long as I get married. The bay of E has lots of things like bouquets you can cheaper, I'll just get some large wine glasses (can get them 4 for a £4 and put some candles and stones in for centre pieces, I'm having a winter wedding so I was thinking of getting Fresh holly from bushes and using that, so that will be free :) and cakes can be done cheaply too. I'm hoping to hire my dress so that'll save us a bundle. I hope you can manage to work out your money worries, everything always works out in the end, good luck x

We're in the same boat we have 8 weeks and 6 days left to go and hardly anything is paid for! My parents have now stepped in saying they will get a loan to pay for it if they cant raise the money another way (we'd have no chance of getting a loan) My nans paid for my dress that was £1100 we've lost the deposit on our photographer because my neighboughs DIL is doing it instead and shes a professional photographer, her other DIL is doing my hair as shes a hairdresser. My skin is horrendous im covered in spots when i never suffered from them before. Ive got constant headaches too. So its not just you in the boat hun, Its hard but breath and try and think no matter what youve still got your man! xx

No worries Becky lol I am taking a little step back from it all at the moment until we see how much h2b gets paid from his new job then we can work it out from there if I win the euromillions I'll send you all a little cheque in the post
Would you consider putting anything on a credit card and paying for it for a couple of months after?
I know you're probably mega busy and stressed at the moment but what about finding another job? I've taken up a second job in a pub on friday nights - I'm shattered at weekends, but over £100 a month better off.
I would also consider speaking to friends to help out with other bits that you still need to do. HAve you got things like garter/jewellry/favours? Are these things you can do without? Or do friends have things like this that you can borrow?
Good luck with everything! x

I've been really good with money and budgeting up till this month! I checked my current account the other night and i'm £500 overdrawn for the first time in 3 years. I'm not amused! good thing is there is still enough money in the joint account to pay the outstanding balances for photography chair covers and flowers. All because i've had LOADS of dental work this month mounting to £350.
I must be crazy giving myself only 6 months!

we're paying as we go... We've got 22 days left, and still have to buy the rings, food & alcohol, and balloons! Luckily, we've only got 50 guests for food, and we're buying enough alcohol but will say to people if they have a certain favourite drink to bring a bottle!
but we've managed to keep ok with our money by doing second hand on some bits (our sons beautiful waistcoat & cravat we got off ebay! it looks brand new!) and avoiding spending on things that look pretty, but that we dont *really* need. We're keeping ourselves from panicking by saying as long as we're there, and we've got our outfits sorted, thats all that *really* matters to us :)
also, I got a pretty blue garter from the wedding section in Hobbycraft for £2.00!! check them out for wedding bits and bobs as alot of it in there you can make yourself :) xx

I'm kinda feeling the same, Jas (h2b) get telling me not to worry, it'd be fine! everything will be paid. As much as i appreciated his optimism he didnt actually know how much still needing paying lol, i cried cause he didnt want to go through the budget sheet at a particular moment (i was having a bit of an emo day lol) then he knew i was upset, i was also having some jitters which didnt help, not bad jitters just natural ones. he's putting in as much over time as he can doing nights and i hate him not being there so much :( he's got 11 nights on the trott of 12 hours shifts. He's a grafter my boy bless him. All i can do now is trust him when he tells me it'll all be ok, and i do trust him. I just think now if we've got it wonderful if when havent then poop but worrying isnt going to change the outcome all we can do is take deep breathes. If it means you dont pay your utiliyu bills for a month so what its only a month, its not the best think to do but its an option. Good luck ladies, just remember the most important part is the marriage not the wedding x

We have really bad credit history so no chance of getting a loan or credit card and been planning so long all the small things favours/garter etc were bought over a year ago I should have paid off all the big things first but every time I have a bit of money I'll get something small first I'm sure we'll sort it out somehow thanks everyone x
