im afraid only you can decide upon that. The materials will be cheaper as this is why the dress is a cheaper dress as it will be a copy. It may be well out together though. It may not be well put together. You need to decide if its worth the risk x

If there's not too much of a difference between them then I'd go with the authentic dress.
Not to say china/ebay dresses are bad - plenty of ladies on here have had great dresses but I'd just prefer the original.
But that's just my opinion :)
Maybe check the "china dress" thread and see if your ebay seller has been used by someone else on here? :) Xx

    I'll bump it for you

I plan to buy mine with plenty of time in case there is something wrong, so i can either get my money back from paypal and order a new dress or whatever.

I'm going to be brutally honest and say that I've yet to see a replica that doesn't look like a replica to me; IMPO the materials are noticeably cheaper.

But, I am fussy about fabric: when buying clothes the fabric is really important to me and I prefer to pay a little extra for fabrics like silk, cotton and linen rather than synthetic fabrics as IMO they look and feel better. When I looked at wedding dresses, I found that in general, the cheaper ones did look and feel cheaper. I also felt that the details weren't as good quality, and I've noticed the same with replica dresses.

Now obviously it is down to personal choice and taste, and only you know what your tastes are, how fussy you are, and also, what you can afford, and are comfortable, paying; but if it were me, I'd get the original, as I'd be happier knowing exactly what I was paying for.

Ive seen a number of replica dresses that quite simply look cheap and yes they are a fraction of the price but this is due to the quality of the product/ fabric. I personally would prefer to buy the original even if it does cost more, but i suppose it depends on your budget & if you can afford to purchase the more expensive dress. I would prefer to wear a dress that looks and feels well made

I would always go for the original, even if the replica is good it will never be as good as an original.
I supose it really depends on how big the price difference is and what your budget is. My dress blew my budget but once I'd tried it on I knew it was the one, looked at lots of similar cheaper ones but that's exactly what they were in every sense of the word "cheap".

How about looking to see if someone is selling it second hand?
I have to agree with the others, you will never get the exact dress if you get it in china, not only because of the things already mentioned but also because they have to make changes to the dress so they arent breaching copywright (which technically they are doing by putting the pic of the dress on their website but thats a whole different convo) Sometimes these changes can be quite massive and change the feel of the dress, if there are really specific things you like about the dress you cant guarantee they will be there on the copy. I do think the style and material of the dress makes a difference to, a simple dress in chiffon is easier to copy cheaply than a complicated dress in silk

I agree with the majority, i would go for the original every time. You just cant be sure with a copy and may end up buying another dress anyway, which could send you over budget.

But this is your choice, just go with your gut feeling, only you know what you really want to do.

    Good Luck hun. xx

I hae to say i DO Agree the copies are never the same quality. I believe my dress is a copy of a reynold joyce one, the original costing £1800 the copy £115 ish. I simply can not afford the original, there is no way, so I will be ordering the copy.
I personally hate sating and silk dresses, even some of the expensive ones to me look cheap, and it isnt a material i personally like to wear.

IF you can afford an original then youre going to get the best quality for sure

Mine is a replica dress but it wasnt dirt cheap it cost me £185. I tried on the original dress in the store and I have received my replica and I PREFER the fabric on my dress. I was going for a sort of vintage look and the lace that covers the replica dress is more my taste. Also most of the dresses are made in China in the same factories that the designer ones are made in. Just because its a replica it doesnt neccessarily mean it will be bad quality. If you want the name of my dressmaker I can post it on your wall?

check the returns policy first... you mentioned you were going to order in plenty of time so it could go back but make sure it can... it may say in the small print that they dont refund so you dont want to get stung.

I will be buying my dress in England, keeping English people in jobs and you can defintily tell the difference and i am a fabric snob too.

Its personal choice though honey and the chance you take.

I think it depends on your circumstances too. My dress wouldve cost £1300 but I my budget for the full wedding is £4000. There is no way I couldve spent that much on the dress and that was the dress I fell in love with. Its all very well to be picky if you can afford it but with paying mortgage and car bills, things arent always that simple. I am over the moon with my dress. Its perfect. If I had the money I wouldve bought the original but unfortunately not allof us are that lucky.

Also most of the desinger dresses you'll see a "made in china" tag on aswell. So buying it here doesn't guarentee it was made here...........

Yeah most of the designer dresses come from China but your still keeping British designers and bridal boutiques in business was what i meant.

Their mark ups are huge tho. If the dresses were a more realistic price it wouldnt be so bad. I understand it costs money to make the dresses but people like me who are working hard and paying the bills and also trying to pay for everything, its almost impossible for me to produce that kind of money. Its a hard situation but some of us cant afford the designer prices. I can honestly say that the company I used were brilliant. They even sent me 2 sashes for the dress because I wanted a black one - they sent me an ivory one too :-)

I can not justify designer prices and to be honest even if i could I wouoldnt pay it, personally i feel the wedding industry is too commercialised, too many brides are alla bout this designer that deisgner, and outdoing the robinsons etc

I dont see how you can justify thousands on a dress for one day, no matter how nice it is.

You DONT need to spend that much to have a lovely dress, I am going for a copy one

Its not always about spending thousands... the dresses i like range from £500 to £900 so not massively expensive. Im not buying my dress to out do anyone else but picking the dress that i love... i have a budget of £1000 for dress, veil and shoes and will stick to that. I like the idea of going into a wedding dress shop and trying on what i am wearing and knowing that is the exact dress i am having. Everyone has their own personal choice and opinion !!

if i had the money, i'd spend thousands on my SHOES, nevermind anything else!! i wouldn't have to justify it to anyone either. you can either afford it or you can't. i'm spending maybe £5-6k (ish) on my wedding and that's a lot of money to me at the moment. i won't be made to feel guilty for spending that. i want to spend it and if i had more money, i'd spend more.

luckily, i got my pronovias dress in a sale, but my second dress is only costing £43 including delivery and it's from china. i know the quality won't be the same, i'm not daft, but it doesn't mean it won't be lovely.

i buy a lot of clothes in pri...mark, but i also have designer clothes. both of them have their good and bad points.

it's a personal choice, but don't let anyone let you feel that your dress will be cheap and nasty. it's YOUR dress, YOUR decision, YOUR day, so spend as much or as little as you want.

Thats fair enough Millz, its just for me, I simply couldnt have afforded to spend more than £200 on my dress due to my budget. So anything over that is too expensive for me. And to me £200 for a dress is still quite a lot but Ive never ever spent a lot of money on clothes so thats prob why I think of that as expensive.

Wow I think everything's been covered here :) I'm having original, I need the structure that I get from the designer (it's a plus size range specifically designed for extra flab) so I'd have been too worried that it wouldnt have that and didnt want to spend more than I needed to. I think it's great that you could get the original in the sale so if you can afford it go for it, but I also think it's grea that you've got the offer of a personal recommendation from RC, at least you have previous opnions from someone who's actually bought seeing as you wont have your own chance to see before you buy.

Only thing I'll add (something Nic touched on) is that the pics used are, alot of the time, pics taken from the designers website but arent the same so you may be disappointed. On the other hand though there's every chance you'll love it and save yourself a fortune. Let us know how you get on either way x

thats a good point jill, about the pics, i asked my seller (after raggedyanne mentioned it) for actual life pics o thed ress they have made, theyre lovely so i am happy, and the basic cost is £89.99 plus extras for the changes i want to make to it.
To me, that's more than enough, but as said above i never spend much on clothes either so it feels too much of an extravangance to me, plus as i say a lot of brides tend to get roped into the ideas of the wedding mags etc, spend spend spend.

make a budget and get soemthing within your budget
