Our meals are part of the package we got with our venue. So in order to feed the photographer we would need to pay the same as we are paying for all out other guests which is the 3 course meal the welcome drink, drink with meal and 1 for the toasts. xx

In my sisters wedding the venue fed the two photographers and the videographer without being asked! And the didn't charge for it, after all their getting thousands off you for the day so a few complementry meals is good PR links with other wedding services!!

    I love this tread.
I'm a wedding photographer providing two photographers with coverage from morning visit through to first dance, we always bring sandwiches with us for three main reasons. Firstly we're working, not guests. Secondly if i ate a full wedding breakfast 60 times a year i'd never fit in my suit. Thirdly, if the venue forget to feed us we may struggle to finish our working day.

Its in my contract to feed them but it doesn't have to be your full three course meal you can give them a bar meal and they can go sit else where. I have to admit that I find it strange though as like Neal says you bring your own lunch etc like you would with any other job.

In all honesty, if I'm paying £850 for 8 hours work, I would expect them to stump up for their own food; it's a job like any other, not many employers pay for people's lunch now, do they?.. If it was someone I knew, then yes of course; but if not I think that's cheeky and I certainly don't want a stranger sitting at a table during the reception. If I did pay, it would be a very simple meal (like a sandwich) and a soft drink/water; I'm not paying for someone to have a 3 course meal and wine at my expense...

Most photographers I've found have asked for a hot meal at some point during the day, but they'd eat in a separate room, not as part of your wedding breakfast. That really is very silly!
But I'll def be giving my photographer a hot meal.... don't want a hungry, grumpy photographer! lol

I guess its ok for them to ask to be fed - but as Mrs West 2b said - a sandwich and a pack of crisps in a different room and they eat in their own time and not miss anything important!!

THERE IS NO WAY - they should be on a table at the reception what a cheek!

However, if I was paying for my photographer, and entering into contract with them.. then they can damn well take sandwiches like every other working person in the world does!

We are having 2 photographers and simply cannot afford £77 for each of them to sit at our reception tables, (nor do we have the space) however i will be offering them a hot meal, bar snack type thing, which they can pre-order in the main restaraunt area while we have our wedding breakfast.

My friend deducted the cost of the bar meal from the balance due to the photographer. lol! Photograpgher never complained. How could she?!

I think that providing a packed lunch is reasonable. It won't take them too long to eat so they can get back to work!

I am also a wedding photographer and always take my own food. In all the weddings I have covered I have only accepted a hot meal from one couple and that was mainly due to the distance I was asked to travel to get there. The last wedding I shot I was offered food by the venue on the day but I refused as I already had my own sandwiches. If you do want to feed your photographer I would recommend speaking to your caterer first as they often will prepare a simpler 'staff' meal at a lesser rate to your guest meals.
Also consider how long you have your photographer booked for on the day, as previous posts have said 8 hours of coverage is no differnt to someone working a normal 9-5 job but if you are asking your photographer to be with you for 12 or more hours (which I am quite often asked to do) then it would be nice to at least arrange a set time during the day for your photographer to take a break....the choice is then yours if you would like to supple a hot meal or whether they purchase there own from the venue. Either way it's always helpful for both parties to know in advance what to expect.

we asked our venue about feeding the photographers, and they said previous weddings had just had an usher nip to the shop nearby and bring them a picnic of sandwiches etc - ours is a friend who's doing us a favour though and as it's a buffet style menu we've just added them in seeing as they're with us from getting ready till the end of the night! Same with the two video guys too :-)

My photographer is a friend so will be having the meal with us. I am a wedding photographer and usually take food with me. However I have been fed twice - once included in the wedding breakfast and once given a bar meal. TBH i'd rather not sit in at the wedding breakfast as it gives me time to go through the photos i've taken and have a breather as it can be very full on! It is always nice to be offered a soft drink and cups of coffee are always appreciated! x

Our photographer is having a meal as he will be there from when i get ready to the first dance. He is a friend of my future brother in law and has just gone into weddings. He is doing for 750 which includes a c.d with all the pics and i think he is getting a 2nd person to take other pics too. After reading all the comments im quite tempted to add another 15 quid to the bill and get him to buy a meal from the bar menu! x
