I was just wondering how you go about paying for things when you choose your venue/flowers/ring/invitations etc as One of the reasons I decided to have our wedding abroad is that when we book holidays we usually pay our deposit then pay it over the year until its paid off, I couldnt afford to go otherwise, our wedding will be the same.
If I was to get married in the UK I want so many things that we just couldnt afford it.
edit:-With Weddings in the UK...
Do you pay a deposit and then pay a certain amount every week/month until a certain date or do you have to pay the majority upfront/all upfront? Do they credit check you or anything to make sure you can afford the venue beforehand?

are you wanting to know just about weddings abroad or in uk too? we are getting married in the uk and have paid for the large things with deposits and then pay off the rest by cetain agreed dates. They dont do any sort of credit checks as you sign a contract with your supplier that basically means if you dont pay you dont get the service.

We have put down deposits You have a choice really. Our venue are happy for us to pay bit by bit as long as the balance is paid 4 weeks before the wedding. Our photographer took £100 deposit at booking then the rest payable on the day The florist we like let you do an intrest free monthly payment plan The rings we are looking at is the same thing as florist
We are booking what we can and putting the deposits down then saving as we go

we paid the deposits and then paid most stuff off as and when we could afford it, even before they wanted the money as we found it easier x

We paid the deposits at the time of booking and then in the contract, it said when they wanted the balance paying - most are 6 weeks or one month before the wedding. We already had most of the budget saved and then saved more as we went along. We've just paid almost everything off - quite scary writing all those cheques!

We are paying thing as and when we can afford it at the moment the plan is to pay the venue off between now and the wedding then one other thing each month until its paid then the next thing then the next then the next and so on.
For example venue and photographer, venue and my dress, venue and suits etc. This way we are hoping to have everything paid off well before they need to be as we have just under 4 years til the wedding and we have already got some bargains just by booking the venue and photographer as the venue agreed to keep this years prices for us and last years for the photographer

We will be paying things off bit by bit and as and when we can afford them. Rings are being paid monthly - interest free. Flowers already bought from bay of e - just mine and H2b's flowers as we are not having attendants Dress - monthly installments and again interest free Shoes are being hand made and can pay for them when I have the funds Tiara - I won!! Jewellery - The lady who's making my shoes posted a link of someone who makes jewellery and she is copying ideas from a website I sent her - costing me atleast half of what I would have paid, result!! Invites - a friend is hand making them for mates rates, she will be doing decorations too. Venue - Yet to find one! By doing things now, we are hoping that by this time next year most of it will be paid so we can just relax xx

We paid deposits on everything to start with and we are paying one thing off at a time as we save money to do so, but everything we have has to be paid up front with the latest one being our venue/meals 21 days before the wedding.

We paid depostis first then just saved so much a month into a wedding account - usually most places abroad and the Uk require balances to be paid around 8 weeks before hand so you can just let your wedding account build up until then. There is one good thing with Cyprus that they dont expect ceremony fees tlll the day of the wedding which can give you that little longer to save. xx

This is a great thread! As I don't have any experience from weddings, attending or helping prepare or anything I had no idea how this worked. I thought you had to pay the venue up front! This is a big relief to know that's not how it works as means we can book it sooner. Thank you so much ladies! :) I bloody love this forum! Lol :D

We have paid the deposits for everything, and then for the venue we have scheduled dates for payments, for everything else it just gets paid off 2-4 weeks before our wedding date. Luckily we have the money already but instead of paying it all off im keeping it in the bank so it earns us interest :0) x

We have only paid our deposits so far, was going to give our venue a big chunk the other night when we went round but I thought it's just going to be sitting in their account gaining them interest, so like Antonia, it might as well be sat in mine gaining me interest lol x

we paid the deposit for the venue and have made a couple of further payments ,,, the rest to be paid 3 weeks before the date .... deposit for Dj ... rest to be paid either before the date or on the night
everything else has been paid for outright as we have got it ..... we have also put money away each month so it will be nice to have that when we draw it out in may ( oh just in time for my birthday lol)
Its a shame interest rates arent higher to make having that much money even more worth our while! We paid the deposits all as we booked it and everything else is to be paid 4-8 weeks before.
There are so many people out there who will tell you
what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!
