You get 90% for 9weeks then £128 after that up until 9months. After that you can take the extra 3 months unpaid.
Some companies will pay extra on top but have conditions such as you have to return or pay the extra back.
She would also get child benefit and tax credits depending on their earnings - the first £100 a week on maternity pay does not count towards earnings when claiming tax credits xx

There is a tax credit calculator online she could look at and child benefit is £20 a week x

If she and he partner are working and been working for more than 25weeks before she is at the 20week stage she will be entitled to maternity pay @ 90% for the place she works for I think is about 6mths but not 100% and the it goes down, it also depends on how much the partner if there together works and what wage he's on, if its under 16,500 for both of them/her, she will be able to claim working tax credit, plus she will get child tax credit no matter what the wage/s is and if its quite a low income she will be able to apply for housing and concil tax to top it up plus child benefits on top which she the midwife will be able to help her apply for all of this when she futher along, me and my partner where the same with our Lo was born but we where better of in the end, tell her not to worry she will get more money, as she goes along but to be careful as any changes to any income she will have to tell them, otherwise there would be problems x

It is also calculated on her final 12 weeks salary as some people get commission and bonus and this is taken in to account. If she is able to do working holidays so that ultimately her final 3 months of salary is double its worth doing :) xx

it's 6 weeks at 90% then the following 33 weeks are at SMP (statutory maternity pay) which from April will be £135.45 then the following 13 weeks are unpaid. She needs to keep in mind that during maternity leave all of her benefits remain in place this means she still accrues holiday as if she was in the office (some ladies choose to keep these and go back on to the Payroll before actually returning to work to make sure they get some money after SMP has finished), and if she is in a Pension scheme and salary sacrifices, the Company must cover both hers and the Companies contributions whilst she's on MAT leave.

It's up to her if she ceases pension contributions for the 12 weeks prior to MAT leave (this will mean her 6 weeks at 90% will be higher but she gets no pension contributions during MAT leave).

Hope this helps! Work in HR so any questions, just give me a shout! xx

I would suggest she speaks to her internal HR department and see what she is entitled for. The girls have outlined basic MSP to you but she may be entitled to more depending on her contract and the terms and conditions within it.

I work in HR too so let me know if you need anything xx

hiya, I've just finished my maternity pay after having my little girl. i got my 90% pay for 6 weeks & then 127.70 for the rest of my maternity. Because i was on a low wage before I was entitled to working tax credits & child tax credits. I got about £150 a week from them which was a massive help & £80 a month from child benefit. But if you look online for a benefits calculator that should tell her what shes entitled too!

    hope this helps! xxx

She's going back to work after 9 wks and putting baby in child care as she can not afford to live off maternity pay, she is going to be a single mum, father does not want to know, when she goes back to work Jan 2013 is it than that tax credits start for childcare and working tax credits, if we have calculated it correct it looks like she will manage quite comfortably it says she will get £245 this is for child tax credit and that as it will cost £600 PER MONTH childcare

When does she apply for the credits etc, when she returns to work January 2013, she is due 19th October so she will get 6 wks at 90% she is than going to use 4 weeks holiday as shes got holidays left her year runs dec-dec and than back to work Januray on her normal salary and than does she apply for tax credits. Also say the baby come early and she had to go on materntiy pay for a few wks is that all she's got to live of or does she get tax credits while on maternity pay???
