I have been asked by my priest (catholic) a baptism/christening certificate for OH, as he was baptised Church of England in another county, I've looked up online and cant find anything, the things is MiL doesnt know the date, I was thinking of calling the diocese where he was baptised as the parish doesnt really have a vicar any longer, are they gonna be able to find anything for me with just OH name and PIL name? I am not even sure what year it was. Do you know the rough price for this?

Hey, I'd try the diocese too if there was no longer a vicar - does his mum know the year it was. My partner is c of e and he rang the vicar and gave him the year as his mum couldn't remeber either lol as well as his name and dob. He was charged £8.50 for two photocopies. It should be around the same price.

Yes it's all logged in the church records so if you know the rough year(ish) and his full name they should be able to find it. I was baptised at my christening so if you look within a year of his birth they should be able to find it...

It's the toughest thing ever what a useless system to keep certificate by the Church and not the Parish, I am totally losing my patience.

Tbh, when you're christened/baptised you're given a certificate then to keep for your own records, as we still have ours - so technically you're asking the church/parish to provide a copy so it's only a back up service to you. Has your H2B not got a copy anywhere??

his parents aren't religious and just did it for sake of it, when we mentioned him being baptised his mum could not even tell the date, what's the point in christening your child if it don't mean a thing to you.

The church have to keep full christening records. I was christened church of england and they still have mine there. All the files should be in storage in the church where the christening took place xx

future mrs double - did you have to provide your own certificate or did your church get it for you.
im catholic and the priest said he'd just dig mine out of its archives as long as i knew what church it was. mine was free lol
h2b paid £8.50 for two copies and they've only got his date of birth wrong on it haha! it says he was born on the 16th instead of the 18th so he has to get new ones x

Thanks Linzi, thats what the vicar told me today. He will be at that church on Sunday and look it up for us, and if he finds it FOG will pick it up for us as we live quite far from there.

Absolutely. worse case scenario my priest said we would put OH down as not baptised and ask authorisation to bishop to allow us (which in 95% of cases is granted)

Vicar called me an hour ago saying he found the certificate for OH, and has it, so we called OH's dad who lives in same city than him, and they got in touch, and OH's dad went straight away to get it. It was free of charge :), can't believe how lucky I've been in the end, after a few days struggles.
