Hi everyone, I am new on here. Only got engaged on 2nd Feb and already have my first wedding drama! I am getting married in 2015 (time to save and hopefully have another baby and lose weight.) Been talking to my friend who is getting married end of this year and just found out that we have both chosen the same dress! Trouble is my fiance knows we want the same dress so if he sees her on her day or in pictures he will know what my dress will be! :( :( what do i do? go for a different dress or save money and buy hers off her? lol

I agree, you've got plenty of time to choose one, and to be honest if it was me, I wouldn't wear a dress one of my friend had the same, as I like to feel unique and it would make me not like it any longer.

Trouble is I am very curvy. I will need a plus size dress even after 3 years of dieting! lol. Every time I have lost weight in the past my boobs never get any smaller so I dont think I can wear a strapless dress. The dress I want looks lovely and I havent found any other dresses with straps that I like. We didnt even know or discuss dresses before and just mentioned it on facebook tonight so I sent her a pic of the one I want and she said that is the one she has chosen! :( Don't want my fiance to see her dress now but we will both be invited to her wedding. Kinda hope the dress looks awful on me, or she cant afford it in the end. :(

You have plenty of time yet and just because you like it in the photo doez not mean it will look good on. I like ruffled skirts but theymake me look huge and really dont suit me. Try in as many dresses and styles as possible, even if you dont think you like them you may be surprised when its on!
And last but certainly by no means least... Congrats on your engagement!

Thanks girls. I know its early but I am going to go to a 'curvy' bride shop in the next month or 2 to try lots of different styles and see what happens. I think that sort of shape will be best for my bust size as they are wayyyyy too big for a strapless!

there are so many dresses out there...even in the style that you need! AND when ur h2b sees your friend in THE DRESS it wont be anything like seeing you in the dress! but like others say, give it time! i thought id found THE DRESS when i tried my first one on and have now gone for something totally different Good luck xxx

If you are not getting married until 2014 there will be LOADS of dresses that will come and go and be 'the one'. take it from someone who had 3 'the one' dresses! i am now on my 4th choice, and i am satisfied i have now chosen the right one, and i am looking no further! ok i didnt BUY 3 dresses, but had my heart set on them.
But if you really still love this dress when it comes your time to marry, then yeah , why not buy it off her and perhaps make a slight change...like adding a blingy sash or something to make it 'your dress'. i see nothing wrong with saving money, and re-cycling it. as for H2B......he wont remember your friend in the dress. you are forgetting one very important factor here.....he is a MAN! men dont remember details like we do. OK he will notice it when YOU are wearing the dress but he wont rememeber it on her. Plus you have 3 years, you could say to him......you found another dress and prefer it to XYZs dress, so he will then not take any notice of hers on her wedding day.

Ohhh that dress is beautiful - but there is nothing to say another dress very similar to that will be aroundwhen you need it, failing tht - a good seamstress would be able to alter the straps etc if thats what was worrying you - i defo would not want to wear the same dress as a friend tho - but thats just me......xxx P.S our other halves have the same name!! hahahahahah!! xxx

I agree with RaggedAnne completely,there will be countless new dresses released in this time you are bound to find some more that you love as much as this one.BUT if you don't RaggedyAnne is right your h2b will not remember your friend in the dress he will just see you in the dress! As far as men are concerned wedding dresses are all the same,very few men notice them in the same way we do but certainly not if they have a gap of 3 years between seeing them xxx

You can't judge a dress on a picture, you need to try different styles to know what suits so don't have your heart set on that dress. I haven't even started trying dresses yet because I don't want to fall in love with "the one" and then find a new style has come out that I love better. I wouldn't let this situation upset you.

WOW that dress is gorgeous. But, by the time 2015 comes round, lace probably won't be in fashion! Your friend probably has the same thpughts and emotions as you - upset, angry and downhearted that you have both chosen the same dress. I personally think wait until 2014 to even start looking. Your body shape might change - especially if you have a baby etc. Try and make a joke out of it with your friend to show there's no hard feelings! Best of luck wedding planning xxxx

That is a beautiful dress, you will look stunning!! I'm a plus size bride too, so know what you mean about keeping the 'girls' harnessed in! How about having the same dress, but in a different colour and with different embelishments? Or how about findng a dress with little cap sleeves instead? The dress that I have my eyes on is in my albums if you want to take a peek xx

Ohh dear!! My H2B has seen photos of my dress, where i ordered it online. We kinda chose it together, but its not the same as seeing it on his bride so i dont mind :) he still wont see it or on me untill our big day :)

Have you thought about maybe getting your dress made for you instead? You could always use this one as a guideline but change parts of it so that it is completely unique to you? xx

Will probably go down the route of getting a dress made anyway as this one is £1600! our colour scheme is hot pink so i might get a copy made with the band under the bust in hot pink??? Soooo much to decide on! I love organising things! :)

something borrowed....... ;) and bought off your friend at a discount... bonus! You could always jazz it up someway with accessories that change the look. And since you have so much time let your friend know to hang on to it until you find something different or in case you don't! I'd say that is good luck! :)

Hi I had exactly the same problem, but it was y h2b's cousins new wife that turned up in the dress and then one of my old friends from school posted photos to Facebook and had the same dress as well !! it completely put me off the dress which at the time I was gutted about as I thought it was the dress of my dreams. A bit disheartened I began the search again as thankfully I hadn't ordered at that point. To my amazement I found another dress after searching high and low from shop to shop, and I LOVE the one I have finally ordered so much more than the one the other two wear wearing!! So maybe it was for the best x
