Me and H2B have had a bit of a disagreement about what to ask for money for. We have decided to go to Tanzania in Africa for the honeymoon of a lifetime which includes us climbing up Mt Kilimanjaro doing a safari and beach holiday with diving in Zanzibar. The honeymoon is costing almost £8000 for the both of us. Once we are married we also want to look at buying our first home together and would need help towards the deposit. We are about to inherit over £20k from H2B Nan so have the money to spend on one or the other. H2B is insistent that we need to say the money is for the house and people are less likely to give cash if it’s just for a holiday. I’m not so sure as I think our honeymoon is so different that if we tell them what we are doing that they will be happy to pay towards it. What do you think?
CommentAuthorlala "mod" bunni
you could say its to enable you to for things like your safari .... they seem to like that ...
ps i have some wicked pictures i took of Mt k so will have to show you
We said both, after looking through various poems, we merged some together to make our own:-
"The pleasure of your company on our special day is all we need to make it the best in every way. Although, if you were thinking of giving a gift to help us on our way. A gift of cash towards our honeymoon and house would really make our day. However, if you prefer to purchase a gift feel free to surprise us in your own way."
Though thinking now I probably shouldn't have included the last sentance?
Hope that helps x

I think honeymoon would be the best option hun, as the money u get from ur nan would be for the house and the family are going to support u in putting the money down on a house than spending it on a honeymoon, they will be glad to help u out to get a honeymoon up together xx

or....just dont tell them. i have found some really cute poems in the past that state things like we have pots and pans and towels and stuff and so rather than having doubles and triples etc a gift of cash for a rainy day. i cant rememebr the actual poem but that was the jist of it anyway im sure if you look you can find the one im thinking of...
or thinking of it, if you have greek somewhere in either side of your family then you could ask for the gift of cash for a rainy day and also incorporate the traditional pin the cash on the dress dance. but you would need someone who is greek orthadox to play the traditional music for this. i thinki its a lovely idea personally and was kinda upset when my mate who is greek orthadox didnt do it for her day. altho now her sister is getting married in march so i am now hoping she will do it especially since she has a baby on the way.... every little helps

Katya that made me smile!! I would love to have money pinned all over me but unfortuantly my family are welsh as far back as you can get and my otherhalf is english via italy with not even a hint of greek. not even a married in greek!!!!!
I think we will try and keep it quite open and hopefully will get plenty of cash. we are putting together a small gift list on our wedding wedsite for those that do not want to give cash such as H2B aunt who thinks it RUDE to ask for cash!!!!!
CommentAuthormadhen
My mum thinks it's rude to ask for cash too! Maybe not in a wedding situation, haven't asked her about that so don't know, but for birthday presents etc she hates giving cash. I still think it's preferable to getting a load of stuff you have no use for which either lies around gathering dust or ends up being given away or sold...for cash!
CommentAuthorKatya
putting in a poem stating you have everything is not being rude its simply telling the guests that all you require is their presence but IF they want to get you something then cash is more needed for rainy days than having 4 vegetable steamers

We are getting married in Kenya & honeymooning there too with a safari etc. So i say go for the honeymoon of a lifetime & people will understand that!
We looked at climbing mt.k for charity but with it taking 7days we wouldn't get the chance to get married, beach, safari, villages & diving in the other week! How long are yous going for? x

Severe chronic back pain, hypermobility and sciatica... And i was 6days late which made the pain worse than it is every other day... But oh well thats life
I totally agree having something unique is always a good option

We've asked for cash, and set up a free websote where people can contribute to various things in the wedding. Its been really well received. I dont think asking for cash is rude at all. Most people expect it these days because so many people live together before they get married, they have everything they need and more usually.

Anastasia we are doing just over 3 weeks, 7 days kili, 6 day safari and then the rest on the beach in zanzibar including the diving. am so excited cant wait to go and do it. we looked at doing kili for charity but it looks like a bit of a con as it only cposts 1200 to do it privately on a decent route and to do it for charity you have to raise over 3000 of which only about 1000 goes to charity!!!! plus most charity climbs do the really common mirangu route which is nicknamed the coca cola route and only has a 45% sucess rate!!!

Sounds fabulous lows, I have been looking at zanzibar looks stunning too! I never looked into it enough but that sounds really pants what they do, which route are yous taking? x

We stayed in north Mombasa in the travellers club - i would definitely not recommend it! The area around there, where there lots of hotels isnt very romantic, its very busy and you get a lot of hassle on the beach, it was ok but not a honeymoon destination South mombasa is meant to be better and thats where the boat trips tend to go from (unless you stay a lot further north), we did a dolphin trip but didnt see any, was nice though - can definitely recommend a trip to feed the giraffes in the eco park

I think I would freak thinking I was going to get eaten by a shark as to why I am unsure on going diving lol.
We will be feeding the giraffes at our wedding location, can't wait! My main trip I would love to do is take sweets to the children as I hear it is a real eye-opener! x

I love the sharks the most!!! i did bull shark diving in fiji where they fed the sharks as part of a conservation programme. they were 4 meters long!!! and after doing a bit of research have attacked more humans than great whites!! I would recommend diving to anyone as its the most amazing experience! xx

We are staying at pongwe beach in zanzibar We went to the place where they make all the wooden things you buy - it was a bit of an eye opener We also drowe past the refugee camps outside nairobi at the time, followed by all of the greenhouses where they grow loads of the flowers we buy in supermarkets - quite sobering!
They also have oscar the hippo orphaned in the tsunami at the eco place - poor thing
