can i please ask what the done thing is with button holes? i thought the men wore a flower in their button holes, the bride, bridesmaids and flower girl carried bouquets or flower basket or similar, and that was it.
then was at h2b's brother's wedding last summer and the extended family were given flower sprig things to wear, women included, so i had like a mini bunch of flowers pinned to the front of my dress. i thought this was a bit odd, but maybe i'm just not familiar with the done thing??

I think it depends on what you want hun, i've been to weddings where every1 has had a buttonhole, but we're just keeping it to the main wedding party, ie groom, groomsmen, dad's, the flowergirls are having flower baskets the bridesmaids are having posies & the mom's are having corsages, I personally think it starts to get expensive when you have every1 having buttonholes, but it's your day and you can have exactly what you want xx

We're having buttonholes for the men in the bridal party - it's dead simple, just a white rose with some green leaves and a white ribbo. I'm making a slightly more elaborate version made for my Mum and my MIL2B as in South African (where my family is from) it's traditional to give the mothers a corsage. X

There's no set rule. My wedding is entirely real flower free so there won't be any traditional flowery button holes. I made mine how I want them - the groom, the men (my dad, my brother, my son) and the best woman get a button hole but h2bs is largest (pics in albums). Our mums will get a wrist corsage (though haven't made those yet) and the bms each a wand like thing (again not made). The fg will have a little drawstring bag I made!

I think I'm going with most here - bouquets for bm's, corsages for mothers, pomander for our flowergirl and buttonholes for men (and my boy) in bridal party... if anyone else wants to wear one they can but that'll be down to them x

    usually button holes go to:
Groom, Best man/men, Groomsmen, Ushers, Fathers
    Mothers get a corsage
    Grandmothers get a smaller corsage

we have done all the above and then given my SIL2B an ivory buttonhole (all the others are purple) as she gave me one at her wedding

I think it used to be the done thing that everyone wore them. Weddings i went to as a kid all the men had one, cant remember if the women did or not.
But more recently only the bridal party have.
we are only providing them for the bridal party, but that is merely down to budget and trying to save money everywhere possible

I think in former times it indicated if you belonged to the groom's or the bride's side because in the old days they wouldn't have known each other. So the brides party would sit on the left side of the church and the grooms people on the other - and the ushers could show them quick and easy.
