Stick to what you and your h2b want. If she wants to pay for you day then she can book it whereever she likes. But as its your day you get to choose.

You've got 18 months for her to come around... if you go along with what she wants it'll be 18 months and probably more of you resenting her. You're wedding is about you not her, I'm sure there are plenty of friends who wouldn't mind having your son, and a lot of venues offer a room with the venue.... go with what you want... it's your day :) xxxx

Not being funny, but she's not exactly bribing you with much! I would nip this in the bud now, because having been on this site for almost a year these things can really escalate. It's really upto your partner to put her straight, as it's his Mum

The other thing is that how are you supposed to plan your wedding if it isn't local to you? Or does she want to plan the whole thing?

Stick to your guns now hun otherwise you'll find she'll try and take over. I had this situation but luckily my mil2b is in Edinburgh and I am in Suffolk..... Lovely amount of distance between us lol. We decided to have our Wedding in Suffolk (my home) and H2B's family and friends are travelling from Edinburgh, it's a tough decision but whats the most important thing is you are both happy! xxx

We have a similar thing going on, we only live about an hour away from my MIL2B but she's giving off the impression she wants us to get married where they live. It's an hour away it's not the end of the world, my family live a good four hours away but I'm not about to have the wedding closer to them either. It's something you're going to do once in your life I figure it won't kill people to make a little effort for one day!

Have you booked your venue yet? If so why don't you arrange to take her there and show her around and make her feel more involved and why you've booked the venue. I agree that you shouldn't let her hold you to ransom. Arrange for someone else to have your son and when she tries that then say "oh thanks for the offer but my .... has said they are happy to look after him on the night". Don't give her any control-it's your day! xx

You will never please everyone. My mum wants my wedding near her but as my partners family have no travel and we live closer to them we are doing near them. She has a car and will travel. She didnt like it but then i told her if you dont like it dont come its that simple to me lol.
I would spend some time bringing her around.. take both your Mum and MIL to venues near YOU to try and find one you all love she might pull a face about it but that way its near you and have her approval :)

you could always do what we're doing, getting married somewhere completely different to where anyone lives! haha. We both love York and found a venue there that we loved, neither my nor adam's family live there and so they all have about a 30-40 min drive to get there. It means we've avoided arguments about it being further for one set than the other and we got it where we wanted :o)

im sorry for the sarcasm huni but its urs n h2bs day! its about you both. You have it were you want it. Im sure she'll still end up paying for something ;-) and as for your son! no one can resist kids so im sure if you needed someone to look after him they would.

Put your foot down and do what YOU two want :-) xXx
