I have almost finished my brooch bouquet, but have had to put it down for a bit as I'm losing my patience! Lol. I've had problems constructing it, because I wanted it to be teardrop. Anyway would love your feedback :)

I have attached a new photo, which is a lot lighter. You can see that left hand side needs building up some more and I need to fill some gaps. If I am not 100% happy with it though I will dismantle it and then re-assemble it.

aw it's so gorgeous and sparkly! look forward to seeing it when you are happy with it, hoping to do this myself x
CommentAuthorLisa Ramos
I'm actually a bit gutted now, that I've completely dismantled it
I've had a go today and used a polystyrene dome and it would be successful, if I wanted each brooch seen individually. A problem I found with my original bouquet was that you could see the floral tape and pipe cleaners. I'm going to re-do it and hopefully I will be happy

Wow this is amazing!!! Ive seen these in bridal magazines and i would love to have one but they are so expensive!! Its great that your making it yourself and at least you have time to make sure it looks exactly how you want it too... good luck with it im sure it will be worth all the stress on your big day! :-) xxx

Really beautiful x

I love it, but then i am a bit biased as i am also making a brooch bouquet and i know what you mean about trying to construct it. I keep looking at it, picking it up, putting it down for a few days and then trying again. I have just over 100 brooches in mine and it is so heavy but i love it and it will so be worth it in the end x

Hi all i'm thinking of making my own brooch bouquet but I have no idea where to start and would love some step by step tips please x x
Sian I have found quite a few demos and step by step guides on internet and even on YouTube.
To be honest though Ive just bought some bits from bay and hobbycraft and local haberdashery and used a variety of techniques to see which worked best for me
Ill post an idea of one of the pages I used to help get me started.

i used silk flowers underneath to neaten up the edges and disguise the wires. i put mine together as if it was a bunch of flowers, as i didnt want a completely rounded bouquet. it was easier to put 3 together as tiny bunches and wrap them together and when i had 10-11 bunches of 3, i then put those together. it was easier to do this rather than trying to make 50 brooches all sit nicely together.....because i was then only handling 10 strands.

I'm just waiting for a delivery of 50 diamante rings, then I'm going to dismantle a few of the broochs and re jig it slighly. I don't like how 3 of the rose brooches look like 2 eyes and a nose lol.

Oh Lisa this is stunning!!! I'm waiting on delivery of a load more brooches and then hopefully by end of next week ill have enough to start constructing mine. What size and length of wire did you guys use? Someone suggested pipe cleaners to me but im not sold.

Lisa I love it! It's beautiful! My friend did something similar to this, but her brooches were different colours, and she draped pearls from bouquet so it was more of a fountain style bouquet - I don't know whether that's something you'd consider? I love it though, definitely sparkly and unique! :) xxxx
Can't wait until the 14th July 2012!

I made my own, and I am now making other peoples!
I use florist wire and tape. A hot glue gun and (and pricked cramped hands!)
I recommend that you don look at what steam you are going to use next. like a lucky dip because you can become over sentimental over which one you want displayed where and that may not work well for the over all bouquet.
Its looking good Lisa. If I were closer I could help ;)
excited alternative bride trying to do things our way!

Wow. It's stunning. I may investigate how to do this. Where, apart from the Bay of E, is a cheap place to source the brooches?
Lisa, do you mind me asking how much it cost for you to put that together?
CommentAuthormunchkinpie
Grace so far ive got mine from the Bay, a wee shop in Silverburn that was selling stupidly cheap costume jewellery after Christmas, a few from Charity Shops and then just 1 or 2 that have really caught my eye from bigger department stores.
Most have been under £2 and none will be over a £5. Ive got about 20 brooches now and then about 10 earrings and a few big buttons. Ive got a few packs of wire and some tape and its all still under £60 so far. Yes ill need more brooches etc but I reckon ill still come in under £80.
I also hope that all the significant ladies in my family will be donating a brooch/earring/button too which will save on cost and also give me my something borrowed as well as that real sentimental touch
xx

Gracelet in charity shops or hit Camden market. Or any other flea market/car boot sale. Trouble is that vintage brooches are terribly trendy right now so prices sky rocketed. Only a little more than a year ago I would buy brooches from charity shops for around 50p and now some are even up to £5!

You could also ask family members to donate unwanted brooches. I am a little obsessed with brooches and have quite a collection and family members keep giving me old ones. That's why I didn't go for a brooch bouquet (though wanted to at first) because I like wearing them :-))

It has been a bit of a nightmare as I only wanted to use clear diamante or ab brooches and pearls. I bought loads in primark that were a £1 each, odd earrings and I've just bought 50 big diamante rings for £24.00. I've constructed it slightly different this time because I wanted it to be teardrop shaped so I made a frame and because I haven't used anywhere near as much wire it is so much lighter. I will take loads of photo's when my rings arrive.

I think it's great and very interesting how we all take a different approach on how to construct the bouquets - whatever they are made of. I like reading about everyones unique idea.

I think once I've decided on my dress (still pondering over Benjamin Roberts vs Pronovias), I'll make a decision on the brooch bouquet. I have to say, they look wonderful and really stunning in photos particularly.

@lisa ramos
I read a really good tutorial somewhere where the bride wanted a tear-drop shape like you, and what she did was buy wire from the florist, kind of like chicken wire. have you ever seen it scrunched up in vases to make the flowers stand properly? well anyway she scruched it up and shaped it to how she wanted it, then sprayed it gold. when it was dry she attached the brooches to wires and posted the wires through it, leaving the brooch on the front, it worked like a frame, and the wires she posted through acted like the handle, and the gold spray was good because it disguised the wire. i think this is better than using the polystyrene balls.

Good idea, I will have a look. At the moment it's teardrop shaped but pretty flat from the side view, so was thinking along the lines of chicken wire (but with tiny holes). Does anyone know what it would be called?
