    Hi guys,
For our reception venue we have hired a marquee in the pub garden, it has a fenced off private area for the wedding party and then after 8pm, we have the use of half the pub and dance floor. I have spoken to the Landlord of the pub who says for £100-£150 he can dress inside and outside of the marquee and pub area for me. I have already collected various thing such as banners which say Congrats or Just Married, and have been looking at buying balloon display kits from the bay. Have any of you got any ideas of how i can make the marquee not look like a cheap plastic marquee which is kind of is, and something more weddingy, at a low cost. Id say my budget was in fact £100 for decoration.

You could wait till xmas is over or nearly over and get some cheap fairy lights and put them up around the place?

I would love to have a marquee for decoration reasons - it's a great blank canvas.

Bunting, hang up lot's of bunting. The bay offers this cheapest, cheaper than DIY.

I would also make loads and loads of colourful tissue paper pom poms (cost next to nothing) and mix them with paper lampshades (also off the bay).

I am still dressing my venue like this but it would be much more effective in a marquee.

Maybe it would help if i added that our wedding is a fun, football, (chelsea fc) theme, Royal blue, white and silver. Ive got table crystals and 5 of the water bottles which are in my album. im wanting to have gerbera's in the bottles, but think this may look cheap and that not alot of effort has gone into it at all :S
i have also purchased those flower jelly balls things, you add water to and they expand.

It all depends on personal taste. I would much more prefer single gerberas as most flowers look tacky to me.

You could still hang up tissue paper pom poms in royal blue and silver and hang up inflatable footballs in between!

were having ours in a marquee too!! ive bought a few rolls of organza to do some swags from the frame of the marquee, also were going to buy some helium (bought £20 in asda lol) to do some balloons in the corners and maybe the ends of top table! weve also got the table crystal and water gel balls. i can picture it in my head of how i want it to look, but whether it turns out right is another thing lol. x

chubblywubbly, my OH is the foreman of a marquee company, so i've seen tonnes and tonnes of them, all decorated (i like to have a good nose around them, and have been to trade shows with him) and something i think looks pretty in them is a balloon arch. My mum asked me to make one once, so i found out how and made a couple, if you're interested, i can tell you how to make one yourself.

Claire where abouts you having your reception. Ours is at Ye olde charles pub in Margate. I didnt think is swags thats what i was going for because although its fun and football themed i still want it to feel like a wedding rather than a birthday party!
Nik - balloon arch sounds good but doing it yourself how much you looking to spend?

It really doesn't cost that much, it mostly depends upon how big you want it, and how big you make the balloons. I practiced on a wire coat hanger that i untwisted and made as straight as possible, and it used about 16 balloons as i made it quite chunky. Balloons are pretty cheap if you get them from party websites or bay of e and you can normally get them in bulk. Other than that, you need some string, a couple of weights (unless you have something to tie it to) and then a small tank of helium. I've learnt from experience that you don't want every single balloon to have helium in otherwise it takes a lot to stop it floating away (we had to tie to a door handle and a cast iron dog statue!)

Probably not even that much, every 3rd or 4th set of balloons should hold it upright nicely without it flying away. I used about 150 when i did one, so it really did take a lot to hold it down. You just need something to give it a lift. They way i do it, is 4 balloons in each set so that they spiral round
