I was thinking of sourcing various different fancy cup + saucers from boot fairs etc to have around my centrepieces with small flowers in or other bits and pieces that I find. Then I had an idea of filling some with wax to make candles instead of the tea lights I was planning. Thought it may be a little cheaper but just wondered if anyone has done it before? Worried that the heat may crack the mugs? X

I was in n e x t the other day and that had some fab little cup and saucers with candles in the cups! not sure how much they were though but they looked great x
Oh I am excited...need to do my save the dates first though. Forsome reasonI have this strange desire tositat the top table and look around the room and think 'I made this room look amazing all by myself'. I'm sure H2B has loads she could give to us, she is a self-confessed hoarder and over the summer asked us to sell lots of tea sets so now I am kicking myself! Might have a couple left somewhere. Now to find wax!!

Ooh I've seen how to do that in a wedding magazine I bought recently. Will find it tonight and let you know if they gave any pointers re the heat not cracking the china etc. x

hey, if your worried about your cup cracking then id surgesst boiling the kettle after the wax is melting and filling the cup with the hot water to heat the cup up, and pour out water and dry the cup and while its still warm fill the cup that way, its how we used to do it when we made them in workshops, hope it helps x

Ok, it's not as long an article as I thought!
'Place wax in a bowl over a saucepan of water on a medium heat until the wax melts. Put a wick in a cup and hold it upright while you pour in the molten wax. Leave to set.'
Good idea about warming the mugs first with boiling water.

You do need to be careful that the cups are definitely able to handle the temperature of a burning candle. I've made the mistake before of putting a tea light in a glass. I figured the glass was quite big, plus glass is made at enormously high temperatures so it would be ok. I was wrong. The glass cracked from the heat.
I don't want to rain on your parade, but just be sure you test at least one before you make lots. You don't want them cracking all over the place on your big day.

Yea will definitely practise first amd burn them for hours. I read somewhere that you can get wax that doesn't burn as hot so will seeif I can find that x
