Hi there, I'm pretty new here (been lurking for a while). I get married in 2013 and went to my 1st wedding fair today. All of the stands i visited kept going on about themes. I thought they meant colours but then one lady started going on about butterfly/bird themes and what am i having as all weddings should have a theme. This has got me stumped as i don't have a theme and can't really think of anything i would like. Do you have to have one??

we dont have a theme either, i think alot of people go for colours as their theme, do whatever you want to do :) congrats on engagement and welcome xx

Finally Mrs Grove :)

I agree with lisa - most people just have a colour scheme rather than a theme, or pick an item which is running through Very few people have proper themes Welcome and congrats :)
There are so many people out there who will tell you
what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!
CommentAuthorhayley
i dont plan on having a theme(tho still early planning so could change), but my colours was going to be my theme i assumed. x
Hey Sam, I guess we do have a theme purely because of the time of year we are getting married. So we have a snow/ ice theme with a bit of Christmas thrown in!! However had we not been getting married so close to Christmas I don't know what we'd be having as a 'theme' I don't think we'd actually bother with one at all. Like Lisa said we'd probably just go off our colours.
Good Luck xx

I've got hearts and the main colour is aubergine/plum :) x

Nope you don't need to but as time goes along and you get more things for your wedding, a theme will probably come into it without you even noticing xxx

i have a final fantasy theme....yeah bit outrageous...lol but i think themes can be anything from colours to animals to what i have done. xx

Mike and i are having a bit of a mash up on our theme,
our wedding's color scheme is mainly focused around my engagement ring which is tanzanite (blue, pink and lilac tones)
and then the main theme is Japan and cherry-blossoms although i'm not too keen of having too much pink so its going to be mostly blue cherry blossoms
I'm incorporating a kimono style design with my dress, bridesmaids and flower girls and i'm having a big origami influence with various bits and pieces including all the wedding flowers being origami
we've also made our own origami Invitations which have an "Obi" style slipcover
the only thing we are struggling with is the centerpieces which we want to be as Wishing trees but we're trying to get them under £15 each which is seeming impossible at the moment

we haven't got a theme as such, we have a definite colour scheme of aqua and cerise but then there are a few bird bits thrown in. Our invites have a bird design, the table plan will match and then we have a birdcage instead of a post box for the cards...but ours is mainly just a colour scheme xx
CommentAuthorvicki
our theme is lord of the rings as all my oh, me and the kids all love the film and the book. my dress is loosely based on arwen's bridge dress, i'm having the evenstar necklace and the headdress that she wore with the bridge dress. we're naming our tables after places in middle earth and our wedding rings are going to be the one ring

I personally don't think a theme is needed. The only reason we're having a bird theme is because I think all of the birdcage things look so pretty and we will be "the birds" once we're married. Just go with what you love, if it doesn't fit into a "theme" category its fine, if it does it just makes it easier to describe!

I'm having a winter wonderland theme as getting married in December but don't think you need to have one although did quite fancy a mad hatters tea party theme too. Most people mostly just have a colour theme although have seen a picture where all the bridesmaids wore different colours so you can do whatever you fancy :D x

I think a theme helps you to style a wedding but if that's not important to you then it's not necessary.
Our wedding won't have a concious theme but is a reflection of all the things I am obsessed with - I am a vintage gal so naturally the wedding will be full of vintage, I live in a sea of polka dots at home so the wedding will be very spotty :-) I also adore Kawaii and collect fawns and toadstools and we are getting married under a fake deerhead - so we are also incorporating this into the wedding in form of 50s vintage kitsch deer pottery. They will go with antique book centerpieces. I am also a big baking nerd and love anything cupcake related - so they will also be a heavy feature.
It's all a big clash but still ties in somehow. Very us. So I suppose we are the theme :-)
Themes I've seen online and love are i.e. English tea party, Circus Spectacular, rustic country wedding, festival, vintage in all it's different variations...

I think as long as you have a vague idea of a colour (or colours) running throughout, you will be fine. We weren't going to have a theme but as time went on while planning it, I had a brainwave and realised a love-bird theme would be ideal. We have incorporated it into all the stationary, which I will be making single handedly. xxx

I think colour scheme is the most important thing. That's what pulls the wedding together and makes it look co-ordinated. My theme is simply to have fun!! You might find that you naturally lean towards a theme as you start choosing things anyway...

I was kind of having a vintage theme - had planned on a tea party and started collecting loads of vintage china but then could not find a venue we both liked that would allow us to do it. So now we are using the tea set for serving the cake and coffee. Colour wise our colours have totally got out of hand and have no idea how its all going to fit together! Just hoping it will all fall into place! x
CommentAuthorLittleMissBossy
The lovely thing about a vintage tea party theme is that it's much much prettier if it's all mismatched!

Its so hard! our colour theme is teal and silver but its really hard to find anything with the right colours in.
Happily in love and can't wait to be married! xx

i didnt think i had a theme until everything i liked has flowers so my theme is kind of a flower theme but iv just really picked things i like, but i think just go with what you like and it will all tie up, i dont think it matters about a theme. Hope your planning is going well xx
CommentAuthorsussie
we didnt have a theme, just colours, but a open heart has sorta slipped in with the invitations, so am following that through, but it wasn't a concious decision
CommentAuthorLesleys1
Personally, I find that having a theme is making the decision making process a whole lot easier! In a way, my theme is actually a colour (tiffany blue) which I've elaborated on!
It's a personal choice though

My theme is my colours...........other then that I dont really have one! I just want everything to be romantic and elegant...........when I asked a friend what she thought my theme was her reply was "classic romance" so i suppose I could go with that lol

vatkins, my h2b has gone for a lord of the rings one ring for his wedding band, lol x
My theme is butterflies, wasn't going to have one but then I bought a veil with them on and have since found lots of other bits and pieces (like balloons, hair grips etc.) found some made of rice paper to go on the cake and even bought some to go on our invites!
WARNING:
I say the first thing I think of!

I would like a champagne/mocha coloured day, but as far as a theme goes we havent really got one. However if H2B gets his way,I think its going to go down the Naval/Military theme road though as our reception is being held in the Royal Navy HQ in North West, so the ships bell, perry buoys, ships wheel will feature in the photos. I want personalised perry bouys like they had on last weeks dont tell the bride!

We never set out with a theme, and the colour scheme just developed as I was thinking about BM dresses and bouquet colours, so now our theme is 'summer brights' - which means lots of bright colours, sweet tree table centres, brightly frosted cupcakes and little windmills as favours - just bright colours and fun!
CommentAuthorAntonia9
im another 50's girl but i also like the 50's hollywood movie stars, audrey hepburn, grace kelly, plus h2b is an absolute film boff. so my theme is 1950's old hollywood glamour. Again if you were having a specific theme then base it on your and h2b's personalities or loves, otherwise keep to your colours, either is just as good! x

You don't have to have a theme. We don't have one as such, just a colour scheme and things that compliment our venue and our personalities. xx

We didn't have a theme - other than colors ... well we did but it was "fun" so we had it in the music, and general feel of the day, rather than as table decorations xx
