Anyone keeping their maiden name after they get married? I'm considering keeping mine as I'm an academic, but on the other hand my son's name is an amalgamation of mine and H2b's surnames. I would have been more keen to change my name if my son had my surname first but H2b insisted he had his surname first and then mine...

I asked about this this other day, and the consensus was some brides were keeping their surname professionally and the married name on official docs such as electoral roll etc...

I know, all my friends has sensible names like Hough. I was so Jealous. Stuart is a much nicer surname, although Van Der Lee is cool!

Back to the original thread though, I think it would be acceptable to change your name on all you legal documents etc, but maybe keep your current name for work?

Lol anni, we've not had that yet, but when one of H2B's aunts found me on facebook she was straight on the phone to his mum asking "WHAT'S HOLLY'S SURNAME!?"

Don't think she was impressed at all. Like I'd stolen their family name or something lol.

Post addressed to us both often has me down as Mrs Parker but I don't suppose it matters that much!

When I get married I am going to keep keep my surname and double barrel it with my OH, although I won't be using it in everyday. I want to keep my family name as my brother has two girls so our family name may be lost as my dad only has sisters, my OH family only pop out boys so hopefully they can carry on my name.

was talking about this a couple of hours ago. as h2b was adopted at 5 months he said he would consider changing his name to mine. but i wanna change mine to his and i felt that his mum and dad might not like that after everything they have done for him in the past. so we thought about double barrel it which mean it would be aitchison-stewart but i think its too much so we are going to leave it for now and decide later. also his family call me louisa and mine lisa and i think lisa stewart sounds better lol!!! xxx

I don't know what I should do? Double barrell? Where do I draw the line, I guess my passport would need to be husbands name, but I don't know the ins and outs, has anyone else looked into this?

I'm keeping my surname. It's double barrelled already with my Mum's maiden name (she kept hers too) and Dad's name.

W2B is insistent that she wants to change her surname to my dad's family name but not include mum's as she doesn't "want to sound too foreign" (mum's chinese)

I just hate the thought of having the same last name as h2B parents, and not having the same name as my Dad and that side of the family anymore. My Dad's side of the family are the best!!!

Hahaha, how many Simpsons are there on this thread!? I used to hate it, got called Marge all the time, and the theme tune thing! But as I've got older I actually quite like it, maybe because people have stopped with the word association games, and it does make it easier to tell official type people what your name is without having to spell it! I'm really really going to miss it, especially since h2b is not that close to his dad's side of the family, and being an only child means the end of the line for our little band of Simpsons! But hey ho, I'm a big fat traditionalist, so Mrs Lewis I will become!
