I know some people don't see the point in having a grooms cake and at first I didn't either but since sorting out my wedding cake I've decided I'm going to have a groom's cake as a surprise for my OH.

He loves fruit cake, I can't stand it! And I put my foot down, I don't want fruit cake in my wedding cake so in stead he has his own fruit cake and I know he's going to love it. He loves rugby!

Is anyone else having a grooms cake??

I'm just having the top tier of that cake made, so it's only small but still looks great. It will sit next to my wedding cake at the table and he won't know he has it till the day. x

We are doing a tiered cake so each will have a different flavour anyway. But what IS a grooms cake? Does it sit next to the wedding cake or what?

    Nope!

The wedding cake we are having is a shared project....he choose the flavours as i dont really eat cake and I designed it as hes useless lol! In my opinion its just another expense for a day that is already way too expensive! (even tho ours is free as its being made by a cake making friend hehehe)

Saying that tho I have seen some FANTASTIC one's out there!

Annette, we are having different flavoured tiers just not a fruit cake as I really do not like it and I felt mean him not having it, so got him his own cake that will just be for him, he loves cake and thinks he will only be having a little bit of our wedding cake he doesn't know he has his own. It will just be placed next to our wedding cake

Thanks munchkinpie (love the name) lol
I felt really bad not letting him have a fruit tier but I really can't stand it, even the smell! So I compromised and he will love it because it's rugby and I'm not having a bride and groom on the wedding cake so it's going on his cake lol
    xx

I've never heard of it either! But sounds a good idea :) We are having different flavoured tiers so both have more than one thing we like :)

I hate fruit cake too, and he loves it. So we are having a slab of fruit cutting cake which wont be decorated and will just be cut up in the kitchen. Its actually cheaper having your fruit layer as a cutting cake rather than as part of your actual cake. So all worked out for the good!

Hails we've done that! He chose all the flavours (H2B was dead set on having a fruit cake top tier for some hypothetical child's christening! haha) and then he's chosen chocolate cake and sponge cake as the other 2 tiers. I've done all the designing with our cake maker as he's not very creative/artistic. I am having a surprise grooms chocolate fountain though! He LOVES chocolate so thought it would be a nice touch. x

We're having a grooms cake - but it's a cheesecake because that's the only sweet thing he likes...he doesn't like any sort of fruit or sponge cake so it's only fair he gets something he likes too.x

i was considering this but we're already having 2 caks one to use as dessert (a cheesecake) and the actual wedding cake that will be served at the evening reception so having another cake would be cake overload but was thinking of personalised cake toppers and having a bride on the cake and then the groom at the bottom driving off in a focus st as thats my h2b fav car and thats what i was gona have as a grooms cake x
