I am in a bit of a dilemma, my h2b mum likes a drink (claims she don't have a problem). So for this reason we have decided we are not serving wine on the tables and people have to buy their own, i am worried that people will think we are being tight and rude not having it on the tables, we are on a budget and simply cannot afford to do this. we are paying for 30 people to have a welcome and toast drink and also for food, do you think i am being tight by not having wines on the table?
    thanks x

We are not serving any drinks at all except hot chocolates while we are having photos (november wedding) and jugs of water on the tables. Instead we are having a cash bar throughout the day!

Every wedding i have been too there is ALWAYS left over drinks wheather thats from the wine on the tables, welcome drinks or toast drinks!
So we decided to go the cash bar route so people get to drink what they want to and saving us £2k :-)

Thats what happened at my brothers wedding, there was wine left over, we cannot afford to put money behind the bar but we have budgeted money for the welcome and toast drink, we also done this to save h2b mum from getting drunk.

Our reception isn't in a hotel so we couldn't get a package. i just don't want guests drunk before they have eaten if that makes sense, i don't mind if people get a bit merry in the evening but not in the day time, h2b mum can be embarrassing as well when she has had a drink (told me things about h2b which were v personal. and we had only been together 1 month)

we are not providing wine on the tables, a lot of our quest would prefere lager or ginuess to be honest.

i agree with waht others have said, a lot gets wasted so we are just providing a toast drink :)

We're not putting on extra drinks - there's a welcome drink, and a drink for the toast and that's it. We can't afford to pay out more :(

We've asked our guests what wine they would like as part of their menu choice but a lot of them have said none thanks so we're having water and just enough wine for the people that want it.
Good choice of surname to be - I am currently a Harding but only for another 50 days!

Every wedding I've always been to there's been wine provided, so personally I'd almost expect it. However, you could allocate one of each red and white to each table and once it's gone guests resort to cash bar...

Im between 2 venues atm, one which includes a drink in the package and is a cheap deal- the other being nearly 4000 so I dont care if people call me tight when i dont pay for a drink on the table. Theres a bar there and i think as im only having close friends and family they wont mind buying their own drinks. Its your day hun, weather you dont want to coz of minlaw or coz u cant afford it dont let it stress u out dont feel guilty when there having a nice meal etc!! xxx

We are in a dilemma with this one ourselves, my family like a drink( not excessivly tho) and my h2b's doeant drink that much at all.

We are not sure what to do as the family on his side that do drink, dont really drink wine, so we cant put wine on my families table and not theirs! We are thinking for the people that dont drink to offer them something else of what they wont , but dont know whther that will cause other issues!

We have just decided we are not going to do it. i think expecting us to supply wine is clearly rude. we are paying for the food and other bits surely they can pay for their own drink. its not us being rude or tight its just we dont think its fair his h2b mum gets drunk and ruin it by saying things out of turn!

Thats fair enough if you get a good deal but we think why should we pay for people to get drunk and ruin rest of the day (had nightmares that mil will get drunk and cause a scene). we also think that we are paying alot for their food so why should we supply the alcohol as well. we also think if everyone buys their own they can drink what they like. we are supplying drink for kids and my mum as she is diabetic.

Yep completely agree with you - as i said we were only planning on having a welcome drink ( as MIL2B also likes a drink a bit too much) but H2B has warned her that if she drinks too much and starts making a fool of herself she will be put in a taxi and took home. I am actually hoping she does drink as then i dont need to put up with her all night complaining abut how i 'stole her baby boy away' lol xx

You MIL2b sounds like an absolute star, Cheryl :D 'stole her baby boy away' what is he, 3? Stupid woman! I hope you can send her home too!!

We're paying for the drinks... but as it's in Spain where alcohol costs less than food, we're able to offer our guests a few options that won't cost us too much. As we're trying to stick with traditional Spanish fare, we're having sangria and wine available. I love sangria but not keen on drinking wine so we're also having a cocktail and iced tea as the non-alcoholic option for kids/drivers! We are also comfortable knowing we don't have any guests coming that are expected to cause any problems!

I think your welcome drinks and paying bar after that sounds more than fine - I would think that most people these days expect to pay for their own drinks... every event I've been to has been a buy your own drinks affair anyway!

Your MIL2B sounds pathetic Cheryl. I know for a fact she will get drunk and embarrass herself in front of everyone, i also know she will blame h2b's dad for her getting drunk as they don't get on, she will slate him at every chance she will get, i spoken to my dad yesterday and he said if she gets drunk he will be sending her home and not to return as he knows i am worried this will happen,
I wish we could afford it but we can't so it tough really, anyway its our day and if people don't like it they can go home! x

Exactly :) my mum is exactly the same, MrsHarding2be! Before we fell out for good and she was still coming to the wedding, I was planning on doing the exact same thing and not having alcohol so she wouldn't be able to get drunk at all! I am sure people will understand... it's YOUR day indeed and you are providing them with food and entertainment and therefore they shouldn't mind forking out for a couple of drinks if they want them!

I am glad someone else agrees with me, i am just dreading having h2b mum and dad in the same room 2bh. i think i will keep my distance from her to save myself from saying something, I always said i would supply the kids and my mums drink as they only serve orange juice and my mum cannot drink loads, it also saves having to pay £1 or summit for a fruit shoot wen they can have as many as they want as you can buy packs for like £5, the people who are coming should be grateful they are coming as we had to cut back on people so half of my close friends are coming to the evening only :(

we wont be either. if we go with the package they get a welcome dring a toast drink and a drink with meal although we thinking of seeing if they will swap " drinks pp for a couple of kids meals. but otherwise we just providing a cash bar so people can get their own drinks and we dont have to pay or ry suggested providing a voucher pp for them to get what they want at the bar then get the rest themselves. im nottoo comfortable with this as people could take the mickey and get triple vodka or something!! weddings cost enough without paying for people to get drunk too!!
