hi all i know ive got ages but im giving my invites out 5-6 months before wedding instead of save the dates and im making all of them day and nights all the same myself so its going to take forever. ive brought loads of blank white butterfly shaped cards and the idea was to stick tiny purple and lilac gems all around the outside and have our initals in fancy silver writting in the middle. i got 2000 2mm gems and worked out that even for my quite small cards id need almost 1000 gems per invite thats going to cost a fortune so i thought ok 4mm crystals the biggest i can go takes it down to 500 gems per invite but its still going to cost like £50 at least more to buy them. im absolutely stuck on any other ideas how to decorate them now ive google image searched and found nothing useful. im not exactly arty so simple-ish ideas would be great if any one can help thanks hannah

Are you planning on making them so that each gem is touching the next one?? if so you can cut down on them buy using every other gem instead instanly halving the number needed.
If not you could chose a part of the invite to 'gem', if you have a picture of the invites i might be able to explain better!!

Don't worry, my wedding is not until January and we gave ours out last month too :) ive looked up some ideas. If you go into a hobbycraft or something simular you can get elegant stamps and you can use your diamanté's like this:

Another thought is maybe use some ribbon with the diamanté's to make it look elegant like this:
That way you can still use your diamanté's, you just dont have to buy any more also its a cheap and easy way to make beautiful invitations, i wish i had the patients to make my own :) x Hope this helps a little

thanks i hadnt thought of stamps dont know that they would fit in my little butterfly though. and yes i was planning on putting the gems next to eack other like a boarder x

You could always gem the centre line and then write on either side, or just gem the top right hand wing!
Depending on what else you where thinking of doing with the envelopes you could gem those instead of like smiler said tie ribon round and use them on that!

another idea is to layer different coloured card with the sticky foam pieces in between almost like 3D to make it different and give it a bit of depth :)

Hi mrsb2b, there are lots you can do without spending £50 on diamantes. You could use smaller butterflies on one side of your card and decorate them then put your names on the other side, like this:
or the border stamps like these can be used around your butterfly and the diamantes added sparingly on the design:

You could just spread your gems out a bit, like a big one then an inch and a couple of little ones and then a inch then the big one again . Lol this prob doesn't make sense, not sure how else to describe what I mean

Good old fashioned glitter? I know it sounds a bit nursery school, but I have my own hand crafted 'business' and I use a glitter called 'Powderz' and it is really fine - it is actually supposed to be used for embossing - it looks a lot more glamoous than bog standard glitter. You can also get glue with very thin applicators, so you get very fine lines of glitter. Can look very nice and classy if done right x

i played around for two hours trying boarders and corners and this was what i ended up with. my theme is butterflys with all different purple as my colour thats why its violet and lilac. there will be c&h in the middle in silver and maybe a few more gems placed here and there if it looks ok. what do you think??? xx

thank you ive so far managed 3 lol its hard. i decided just to buy silver stickers saying weddin invitation to put in the middle keep it simple looking as its quite small alanafx i tried loads before deciding on this the alternating just didnt look right maybe because the lilac looks white next to the violet they looked better keeping the colours seperate. i will say i ended up high as a kite from the glue after the first one was not nice lol will be using with patio doors open from now on. xx
