It's seems like ages since I was one here - but just got back from our honeymoon!!!
We got married on the 6th August and it was amazing!!! I really thought I'd be nervous but I didn't have a nervous bone in my body from arriving in Gretna the day before the wedding. Unfortunately my elderly aunty couldn't get to the wedding due to health problems - but there was 19 of us in total and it was fantastic. 14 of us stayed the night before and got together at the local pub for a meal and a few drinks (and gave everyone a chance to get to know each other if they hadn't met before).
The morning of the wedding flew by (got married at 2.45pm). We had the hairdresser at the hotel booked for 12.30 but she rang to say she was running late - so didn't get to us til nearly 1pm (which was better because I'd spent the morning running round picking up bouquets for the mothers and collecting the schedule). She did a great job on me and my bm (and actually made me look, and feel girly for the day lol).
The rain kept starting and stopping all morning - and by the time we left the hotel for the wedding it was only raining slightly. We had a VW Camper for our transport - and Gav had already told the chauffeur that I was mad about them so he knew what to expect when he picked us up lol. It broke the ice and I spent the ride to the wedding talking campers with him lol. In fact, I think it was because of the transport I was like a kid and was actually early for the wedding (shocked Gav and I'm not usually early for anything lol).
From when the music was played to walk up the aisle, to the signing of the register, it all seemed to fly by more or less in a haze. I remember Gav whispering that I looked good when I stood next to him and exchanging our vows - but believe me, the whole thing is like a (very good) dream. The pastor up in Gretna was lovely as well - not 'stuffy' at all - and the service was perfect.
After the service it was still raining a bit so the photographer took us all around the blacksmiths rooms for different photos. But after a while it did stop so we got some pics outside as well (by the Gretna Green sign, the Kissing Gate and a chance for the confetti to be thrown).
Tbh it was different to what I was expecting - as the photographer positioned us quite a bit for the pics (I was a bit naive and thought they were all taken 'naturally' lol). Some of the guests took some great pics as well - and I've put some of these on my profile as we haven't got the official ones back yet (the proofs were waiting for us when we got back from honeymoon).
Gav surprised me at the reception as we had said we weren't having speeches - and pulled out a prepared speech from his pocket (done weeks ago). My dad also made a toast to us (again not something I knew anything about - think they'd planned it between them lol).
I know everyone says it - but it was a perfect day - from Gav fluffing his vows (not too much though - just don't ask about 'why I' lol) to the gorgeous meal and drinking and dancing til 1am. The only thing I would complain about is that it went soooo quick. 18 months of planning over in a blink - but definitely a perfect one!!!!
