We had a call from our Best Man last night. He's had Crohn's disease for some time now and had treatment a few of years back which resulted in him getting cancer (it was a 40% chance this would happen as the treatment is so agressive). He's been doing really well and the cancer has been in remission for a couple of years. However, his Crohn's is back and he's spent the last 10 days in hospital and he's just been sent home to try to put some weight on before surgery in the first 2 weeks of September. This means he definitely won't be coming to Vegas and it's unlikely that he, his wife and his little girl will be at our London celebrations too. Both H2B and myself are gutted. We're not covered on the insurance to cancel (and postpone intil he's better) as it's a pre-existing condition, not that we could do that anyway as so many other people have now booked flights/accomodation etc and they wouldnt' be able to change their dates. It's really taken the edge off it all.

howeveer i have a little idea that may cheer best man up 4 wen u get back, in this mag i read these ladies went away each year and one year one of them was havin treatment for cancer so they make a 'life size' cardboard thing of here n took piccies of it wiv them loads of places, i know it a bit late to make one of them but u cud take a big framed piccie of them and put it where they shud of sat

Aw that's so awful hun. Hope he's ok and has a successful op. I'm sure he'll be able to celebrate with you when he's back on his feet. Stream a live video link for him so he can watch it.
Becky - I think so. But the prob there is that he's a flippin' giant and can't get off the peg clothes. He also live in Saudi Arabia so we can't get him fitted for a suit. But I guess as long as he's there and able to fill in, then none of the 'formalities' really matter. He could just wear whatever. Sijen - that was one of our criteria for our venue in Vegas anyway as we knew there would be a lot of people who wouldn't be there.

He's gutted. We're gutted. I feel as though I have to be strong for H2B but I actually just want to cry about it. It's just so sad :(

Omg, that sucks. So sorry to hear :-( let him know we are all asking for him.
Not so sure the hospital will be that strict, my h2b has been in and out several times over the last few years for quite major ops to remove tumours on his spine and in for weeks at a time but after he had a word, they allowed him to use his laptop, providing it was on wi-fi (he got a dongle for that online) so most are pretty decent.

Thanks for all your thought and well wishes ladies. The BM still hasn't told the other lads that he's not able to make it so H2B can't ask one of them to stand in yet! But we know this has to be his job to do in his own time, so we just have to wait (which is driving me a little loopy as I just want it all sorted! I know that sounds uncaring, but I hate having to keep secrets)! Hx

H2B managed to speak to his other friend (who lives in Saudi Arabia) last night and he's more than happy to step in, so we now have a new Best Man. Previous BM got called by the hospital yesterday to tell him he had to come in today to be operated on, so we've all got our fingers crossed that the op goes well today and he recovers quickly. Hx

My friend got married in april and best man pulled out day before the wedding as his wife went into labour early :-( How unfortunate is that? My friends brother stepped in as he was wearing tails anyway, but you can imagine how disappointed the groom was x (they got married abroad to) x

my mate was an usher at a proper posh weddin last year his girlfiend had baby early hours so he came to do church part then went back to her , but that sonly a usher a bm needs to be at speechs etc
