me and h2b were discussing invites (for those who saw my last rant i think he feels left out off the plans and is now putting ideas in to the wedding woohooo). anyway back on track we were wondering if we should send "save the date" cards or not as our wedding is 2 years a way i sort of wanted to send them next year around a year before the wedding and then send the proper invites about 6 months before the wedding. however h2b thinks this is not a good idea he feels we should just send the invites out and leave it at that. i thought i could get crafty with BIL2B gf (she loves making things and is making our invites) so that she doesnt feel left out of it, what do you all think?

I am in the process of making our save the dates, wasnt going to bother, but with it being in summery months i think it would be a good idea to send as people will be wanting to book holidays. between 12 - 15months before should be fine :) then everyone has plenty of notice. :) xxxx

We've just sent ours with about 11 months to go. We've got lots of people travelling (some family live abroad and our friends are all round the UK) so wanted them to have warning. It also gives people chance to start saving as well, lol. I was getting impatient as well and needed to do something so it helped me!!!

We're going to do the invitations about 6 months before the wedding, again so people travelling can book flights, etc.

My MIL2B helped me stick ours together and it made her feel really involved so it was worth it for that cus she's been a bit distant.

People liked receiving them as well - had lots of excited texts and calls cus we didn't tell people the date in advance so it could be a surprise :-) x

You don't have to send STD cards it depends entirely on you, TBH we didn't bother as our family and friends were so chuffed they wouldn't forget the date!!!!

i just read these out to my h2b and explained that we been engaged since christmas 2010 and one of his uncles doesnt even know were engaged, so it would be a big shock to him and he needs to travel quite a distance also, not quite across the continent but for an oldish man its still a fair way. Maybe he is warming to the idea....i hope so :D

we sent ours about 16 months in advance to make sure people dont book their hols. Also gives them chance to get the rooms sorted and gives them an even playing field so they cany argue that there were only so many rooms at the discounted rate because they were all given the same time scale.

cant wait to be Mrs Evans less than 3 weeks woooo

i think its good to have save the date cards as u give them an idea already and the chance to book it off early enough :)
so ya think u should put all positive things towards it and possibly ur h2b will agree to it :)
for me is also very important as my family comes from abroad :)

We sent STD after having suggested a potential date for our wedding and h2b's close aunt not being able to go, then we changed to another date (not because of that) and my aunt couldn't go. The date we ended up with was a fluke as we were deffo going for the 2nd date we chose but the venue managed to a*se that up and so gave us the 3rd date in peak season at the 2nd off peak rate.

Luckily one of h2b's best friends is a printer by trade and all he is charging us is the cost price for the paper used so after reading many magazines (all of which suggest to send out std cards) and the aunt's not being able to make this or that date, we sent them out so that our nearest and dearest would have no reason to book their holidays on the same date therefore missing out on the wedding.

Our day isn't massive at 80 guests but we want each and every one of our invited guests to come as if they can't make it there will be empty seats as now we've planned it so that all evening guests are still friends but just not close enough to go to the full thing.

I did what you are thinkng about. Sent out save the dates a year before.....which has worked out great as i now know that certain relatives are coming as they have already booked their hotel rooms!
We will be sending out the official invites about 6 months before.
