    Hiya all

My current surname is McBride which I inherited from my Great Grandad who as a child I was extremely close to, he died when I was just 7 years old and at 27 I still miss him everyday (getting teary just thinking about him) and I have always want to keep his surname and pass it on to my children its kind of my way of passing on his legacy.

I have been married previously but kept my surname.

This time my h2b feels strongly about me and the children (who currently have my name) taking his name which is Armitage he also inherited from his G.Grandad (thankfully still alive), but I dont know what to do.

I dont think he realises quite how important this is to you hun, just make it absolutely clear to him x at the end of the day he cant make you change your name and shouldnt try to if you want to keep your current name. Double barrelled is a good compromise xx

double barrelled may be the best option for you if you feel that strongly yourself? be careful about changing your little ones names you may need there fathers permission xx

I cant let him take all the blame cos when we had our son I wanted him to have my surname and he agreed but did say when we get married we'll change it to Armitage and although I never agreed I never disagreed either, guess I never really believed we would ever get married. I have since expressed my wishes to keep my name and to double barrell it but he doesnt seem interested in these options x

My children from my previous relationship dont have any contact with there dad, he has confirmed this through solicitors - reason because he doesnt want to pay for them, he claims I said if he does not see them then he does not have to pay maintance.
This is lies I have never discussed this with him he walked out saying he would be back in 2 weeks to visit them once he had cleared his head that was in the september, he changed his phone number and email address and did not tell me where he was living so I could not contact him, in the december he sent them money and birthday cards (all 3 kids share a b'day) and phoned them, he sent cards at xmas then nothing.

Although I do admit I have expressed in the past how when women prevent the father seeing the children they shouldnt expect the father to financially provide for them, as if he isnt allowed to be a father why should he pay. I do understand that there is circumstances where the child would be in danger physically, emotionally etc and these are exceptional but I never said if he does not want to see them he should not pay because thats completely different.

Sorry for my rant ladies, I have just never understood how men can walk away from children without a second thought and treat them like a drain on there resources x

I do know that most men could not just walk away x

tbh i dont think anyone can judge until you have been in that situation

any way back to the topic ... Armitage- McBride sound really nice ...... your hubby maybe happier if his name is first, and he doesnt have to change his name... you can be knowen by what ever name you want

I think double barrelling all of you could be a nice idea. Then you will all have the same and symbollically merge your families with your inherted names to continue to another generation x

you need to sit down with ur h2b and discuss it coz you seem very set on keeping your surname alive (for less of a better word) and he needs to understand why and respect your reasons for it xx
