Our local registry office only has capacity for 35 seating and 15 standing, limiting us to 50 guests, which is fine, but both me and h2b have struggled to get our preferred ceremony guest list to 50. There are quite a few friends from uni who live quite far away that might not be able to afford to come just for the evening part, so it makes sense to try and fit them into the ceremony guest list so they might come along. So I've been looking around other registry offices and found that Bromley, which is still within distance of our possible reception venue, has a variety of rooms with bigger capacity (one is 75 which would be perfect!). I know you can get married anywhere you want, but is that true for registry offices if you don't live within that council? Sorry if this is really stupid question!

Also... we might be moving before we get married to another borough - if we give notice before we move in our current council, does it still stand once we've moved borough???

    Thank you! :-) x

You can get married in another but you have to give notice at your local one and then pass it onto the office that is going to marry you.

    Yep you can do this.
You just have to give notice at the registry office in your district, they will then send the certificates over to the registry office that you'll marry in and go from there

Its easy enough to sort out. Just remember when you pick up your notice of marriage to send it straight to the other one or you may end up putting it that safe you can't find it again. (mention non names)

We didn't have to send it ourselves or take it to them. The registrar we gave notice of marriage too sent it all over by email and we had confirmation from the registry office doing the ceremony within 5 days x

    LOL Jo.

Does this still apply if we move after giving notice? We're hoping to move the beginning of next year so it might not be a problem, but if not... lol. x

You can't give notice of marriage before 12 months of the wedding but if you move within the 12 months after giving notice you do have to give notice again if you move to a different district. Well that's what I was told anyway it could be wrong x

Ah ok, thanks Melody. Fingers crossed we'll move next year a few months before we have to go give notice, but nothing ever goes to plan when we move, so knowing our luck we'll end up having to give notice twice. x

I'd just double check with the registry office as I could be wrong! It's straight forward though x

We live in Nottinghamshire but are getting married just over the Leicestershire border. We had to meet the registrar in Nottinghamshire and then send our certificates of intent to marry to the Leicestershire registrar who will be doing the service.
