I know its tradition to have your father give you away or your close male relative but Im thinking of breaking this tradition..
Me and my dad get on OK but not great and it wouldnt be an honour for him to walk me down the aisle so why should i have him? Im seriously thinking of having my 4 year old daughter give me away.. What do you guys thing? I thought it would be cute although I can imagine some ppl may think it to be tacky.

now that would be funny; don't worry about what other people think, go with what you feel is good for you both

no i do not thiny its tacky. i had same dilemma and didnt really want my dad to give me away. i truly believe the role of giving someone away should be earnt, and as for my father.......well thats another thread. H2B is quite traditional and it did cause some disagreements.
when i finally asked my dad "are you giving me away at the wedding?" his reply was "what wedding?". needless to say i wasnt best impressed, then to add insult to injury he started moaning about why we are hiring suits. now hes not chipping in to the wedding at all, and considering hes always moaning he has no money i would of thought he'd of been grateful that we are paying!.
i too touched on the thought of my 8 yr old giving me away, but in the end i (stupidly) bowed to pressure.
dont make the same mistake as me, and do what your instinct and heart tells you
xx

Martay, I kind of feel as though I have to too. My dad is paying towards the wedding.. not a massive sum of money but he is only paying because my mum more or less forced him in to it lol (theyre divorced). Im his only daughter so it should be an honour and a priviledge but for him its not :( x

hmm mrs houghton, tell me something i dont know.
my dad was banging on today about his need for new sofas etc, but came out with statement "if i get them this year, i wont be able to go away"... this is the guy who has numerous holidays a year but has no money.!!!
he hasnt offered a penny towards the wedding ("ive got no money") yet last week, h2bs mum gave me a cheque as she wants to pay for our daughters FG dress. and privelege.....nah just an inconvenience, as he cant go away as he normally does at that time of year!

I think you should go for it. There's no point doing something that you're not happy with just cos it's tradition. It's your special day and you should do what you want. If I went to a wedding and the bride did what you'd like to do, I'd think it was really sweet. x

Go for it. I will be having my mum walk me down the aisle as im not at all close to my dad, have considered actually having my 2 girls but as they are only 1 and 2 they will probably run off as soon as they see their daddy. x

I'm not having my 'dad' either because it would not be an honour or a privelige, I don't know my dad other than to send a birthday card and a christmas card too, so my grandad is giving me away... but now i'm wondering whether I should have asked my mum as she has always been there for me?? xx

i think its up to you? could you get both them to walk with you? xx

I might consider that then...I said to her in the first place I didn't ask her because I was sure she would want to watch he only daughter walking up the aisle. Actually thinking about it with the size of my dress they both might not fit, I might have to go have another look around xx

My dad stopped talking to me when me and ex split up 6 years ago. I think he knows I'm getting married again as my brother may have told him. I'm not too bothered if he knows or not as there wont be an invitation going to him. I've asked my mum to give me away as whatever has happened she's always been there to support me. You do what you're comfortable with x
