Wedding Forum - Collegues laughed at my plans :0(...

At breaktime there was a discussion about a wedding that had taken place recently and then all eyes turned on me.

First question was how many bms are u having, so I explained 3 female adult and 3 male adult. The male bms escorting the female bms up the aisle.

Then I went onto my fgs and pbs. Altogether there is a total of 10. We have 10 nephews and nieces between us and we could not choose between them - so thought blow it we'll have them all and stick to high street outfits.

They asked what my colours were and I answered fushia. I feel like I have nothing to hide and feel happy with the way its all going.

Then the jokes start oh the gay male bms are gonna be in drag, gonna be like a circus and a carnival with all them coming up the aisle. It would be brash and like a cheap gay club with all the pink.
I feel really upset. I'm the first to joke its like the sound of music with all the kids - but the other bms are my best mates in the world and wanted to include them all. The day isn't over the top pink and comments such as I shouldn't have gay male bms - as our day would be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
Then I said well actually my MOH is one of the men and comments were ' I'm just going for the entertainment value.'
I feel a bit wounded to be honest. :0(

I'm not surprised! Those comments were just nasty and thoughtless! No need for all that. I think it's great you're able to include everyone! Ignore what they say and if I were you they wouldn't be invited to my wedding! Hx

they seem like a bunch of idiots to me hun, i wouldnt listen to them, as long as you and h2b are happy then who cares!! just reply to them that its a good job they all wont be there to see it!! chin up hun, your day will be beautiful, all the people you love being part of it = perfection :) xxxx

Ignore them. It's your day and you have to do it the way you want it and if other people don't let it who cares?! as long as you are happy with it don't worry about work colleagues!

I think it sounds perfect. Your doing what every bride should be doing and having the people you love there and being involved. It sound's so special and don't worry over the colour. I'm having navy and pink, more pink than navy! It looks gorgeous

Your plans sound great; your workmates sound like total idiots.

If anyone in my office made jokes along those lines they'd be reported to HR and sent into disciplinary, particularly as I'm on the board of the office LGBT network.

You're having the people who are important to you as your wedding party. Who cares what everyone else thinks? Having male BMs is not THAT unusual these days.

Instead of Grant having ushers, I'm having ushers and two are a gay male couple. If anyone were to so much as breathe a word against them I'd have them escorted out and asked never to darken my door again. I'll put up with a lot but not bigotry.

It is bigotry and a very nasty stereotype.
These are my friends whom have pulled me up when i've been down and celebrated the highs with me.
H2b is angry too and is thinking of changing the invites because of this.
I just felt hurt as I love our nephews and nieces, I love my friends and I love the colour pink!! lol
Thanks ladies - just been made to feel I was giving them a day of laughs for the wrong reasons and felt insulted.
As we say 'your day your way' and I completely understand that what I have chosen wouldn't be to everybody elses tastes but why can't they just accept this. People think they can say what they like about ur wedding and it won't bother u. WELL IT DOES!! Grrrr

I'm not telling anyone at work plans about my wedding. I went to tell them about the dress I have my eye on today and they shot me down straight away saying no, it's too soon etc... don't be silly! sod em, I like it so I'm going to jolly well buy it!

As for your so called friends, they are fools and should be ashamed of themselves for such stupid comments.

Aw Suzie what a load of nasty toads you work with!!! Dont invite them and dont talk about your wedding to them anymore they dont deserve to be invited or even have a tiny bit of insight into your wonderful day.

I think if they carry on you need to talk to your manager about it its bullying.

Ah hun I think ur plans sound great and having all you close friends and family by your side is what it is all about, what others think or say is just their oppinions, try not to let it get you down. xx

Some people are just very narrow minded, and the only thing they're doing is showing themselves up!!!! You don't need people like that and around you and you'll be the one who has the last laugh when you have a fabulously magical pink day.....without them ;-) x

How ridiculous & insensitive!! They can bog off, don't share Ur plans anymore with them, they're mean. I don't think it sounds OTT, they're not head to toe pink!!

just ignore them; they're clearly jealous that they wouldn't have the ingenuity to come up with such a wonderful plan like yours.

Like you said your happy with how things are coming along, yeah so what they might be laughing now but i bet they'll be blown away on the big day!
People have made jokey comments about my wedding as well, sometime sounding a bit cruel the comments they have made about the motorbikes and the fact im arriving on a trike, but meh.... my wedding my way. Me and h2b will be happily married and have a day that is all about us as a couple and as individuals, and anyone who dont like it can lump it as far as im concerned.

With a total of 16 BMs, flower girls and page boys, you must have a very long aisle!!

It's not to my liking (too many outfits to buy and get right, too many people to look after and keep in check), but that's not the point. It's your day and if you want to include all your friends and family in those roles, that's up to you.

It is unusual to have quite so many and you must expect some gentle ribbing from work colleagues, but the comment about the 'cheap gay band' is really hurtful and a step too far. Let those who said it know that they've hurt your feelings. It's your big day and clearly your reasons for making your decision are nothing to do with trying to be big and brash, but rather an unwillingness to hurt anyone's feelings.

A shame that your colleagues don't share the same values then.
