We chose our venue then called the registrar to check that the date was available. Paid £20 to reserve the date and will be going to give notice next month. Then meet with the registrar nearer the date to organise what's going to happen xx

20 deposit is good. we had to pay 80 :( although I am annoyed at the fees. A Friend of ours said it would cost us about 350 but when I rang them they said that i was subject to 2 price increases and they didnt know exactly how much it would be but it could be around 600..... its a sunday not a saturday and its annoying as its not as if we can shop around... we pay it or dont get married.

You can call your local registra and ask to temp book them or even book an appointment with them to register but you cant actually do anything untill a year to the day of when you get married (think its 3 months for scotland?).

We have to register with two tho as we live in peterborough but our venue is just outside, so we have to register with them too as the rigistra there is the one that will be marrying us, think its just the one payment tho! (i hope anyway lol)

Well we're getting married in York so had to book the registrars in York because they would be doing the service but you have to give notice at the office of the district/city where you live - so we have to give notice in Leeds. Oh and I know that its going to cost us £35 each to give notice of marriage. That's not included in the registrars fee for doing the ceremony which will be around the £500 mark I think. Is that any clearer? xx

When we booked we paid a £50 deposit and our registry office was £402 but make sure you read the small print cos what we didn't see was that the deposit was non returnable and that was as well as the £402 so paid £452. Plus on top when we did our paperwork at the registry office we had to pay another £33.50 per person that's basically to prove who you say you are then another £3.50 for each marriage certificate you want.
So the initial £402 we thought we was paying ended up being £522.
Not sure what happens in glasgow tho as we're in kent.
