I have so many questions to ask and people keep telling me that your wedding fast approaches even when it's still 16 months away! My partners neice is a bridesmaid and she will only be 12 years old when we get married so when do I start taking her shopping for dresses? I am going this weekend with the older bridesmaids so I thought it would be best to see to them first then the younger one. Plus the girls mum keeps saying that she'll grow and it's too soon, so this is really annoying me too!xx

I actually think she might want to be involved in looking at dresses, with the older bridesmaids. Two of my bridesmaids will be about the same age and I have took them to wedding fairs and told them to look at styles they like on the internet and send me links.

We are waiting till about a month before to buy the outfits for the younger ones, they are (or will be when we get married!) 5 and 8, at that age they grow so quickly, i think we will end up buying about 3 different outfits if we get them any sooner!, But thats just my opinion, i know other ladies on here have bought them well before this :-)

Sorry, just realised, thats absolutley no help at all is it!!!! lol

I thought she might like that too. The other problem I have is that they always go on holiday everytime the schools are off and she has a jam packed schedule on a saturday - she's 11, how is that possible?! So I struggle to get her when I want her. They'll probably be going away again this weekend for easter so will not be able to take her with me. I had to rant and get that out my system, sorry!x

i've got two adults and two girls aged 11 and 13, so will be 12 and 14 when the wedding comes round. I've already got their dresses because I wanted them to match the adults. They tried on 2 sizes, the one that fits now and the next one up and they both decided they wanted the bigger ones to give them some growing room. It doesnt really matter if you get them early and get a slightly bigger size if they still look ok - our look nice in the bigger sizes so it doesnt matter too much if they dont grow as expected! lol xx

I never thought of that. It would be nice for her to be there to see what the shops have and I don't want to be called the bad auntie for leaving her out, ha ha!xx

I would by pass the Mother and ask her yourself, if she would like to go dress shopping. It might mean going after school one day. I think she will miss out on all the fun and excitement, as all of my bridesmaids are so happy when I chat about what i want to have and it becomes infectious.

I'm having a local dress maker make mine as she works out cheaper than the bridal shops and I know what I am getting for my money. She said as long as I get the others done before August then she can get my 10 year old measured and made in August the month before meaning that she won't have altered that much between then and September for the wedding.

As the 12 year old is probably in puberty the likelihood is she will change shape quite a lot in the next 12 months..I would involve her in choosing the styles but hang fire for a good while before you order her dress. x just make sure it's not a style that goes out of season and then you can't get it.

I asked the mother and she told me to go ahead dress shopping without her. I feel bad for her missing out and really don't know how to take that. I will need her at one point as it takes 4-6mths for dresses to arrive once ordered. I wish I knew a dress maker coz I would definately go down that route rather than order from a shop.
