we had 2 evening invites last year and both had moeny poems in- we gave them less than what we did to those we went to the whole wedding, purely because we feel closer to the 3 wedding we went to the whole day last year- i think it would be ok though x

I personally have issues with money poems, but I stomach them in a day invite (even if I often ignore them and buy a gift instead). I think I would be particularly peeved if I got one in an evening invitation.

People can get in touch and ask if they want to find out what you'd like as a gift, otherwise it looks a little presumptuous, particularly as you're not inviting them to the whole day.

We didn't, but the poem was for the day people. We put a link to the website in the evening invitations so people could if they wanted to, but we don't expect it.

I think a wedding website is a great compromise for gift lists. That way you can put what you want gift list wise without having it explicitly in the invitations.

As a general rule, I give money, poem or no poem the total is a complicated mathmatical equation and it goes something like this ;-)

a = the amount it cost the happy couple to have us attend their wedding
    +
b = a token amount for a nice gift each, average price for aperfume or aftershave
    x or /
by how much I like/dislike them
    =
The amount and hey presto! It goes into an envelope along with a small token gift that i have made, which is usually a towelcake.

    Bwahaha! Brilliant JaeSin!

I decided to go off-list for my cousin and got her a tasting menu for two at a Michelin starred restaurant in Edinburgh with my mum and brother. I like giving experiences where I can.

    ha ha Jaesin love it!
I dont think people realise how much it costs to invite people to weddings now. I explained to my mum it cost my friend £160 to have my mum and dad as a guest and she almost passed out bless her, she kept saying, "but what do you mean????" She thought it would be about £25 a head!

We are putting this is both of ours just to keep people quiet as I'm sick of them all asking what we want when there is nothing we won't. We don't even want any money just for the guests to come and have a good time.

We do not have a wedding list
    nor request for certain things.
All we want is your company
and the memories the day brings.
A financial gift would be lovely
    and appreciated by us
but please do not feel pressured
as this is really not a must.
The choice is really up to you
and we would like to say
we hope you come enjoy yourselves
    and have a lovely day!

I'm going to put money poems in all our invites really we would like to take our kids with us on honeymoon so thought this would be good as we don't have much money. Whichever part of a wedding I was going to I would always give a gift.

I think it is ok to put a money poem in all invites day and night ones.

At the end of the day you are spending a small fortune on your wedding day - and you are sharing it with people you didnt have to invite - Its like if it was a birthday party you would at least expect the evening guests to bring a birthday card!!!

I think its good to keep things annonomus though - Our gift list is totally annonomus so we dont know who gave what.

The problem is then you can't personally thank people if you don't know what they have done. I'm sending out thank yous to everyone just for coming but it is nice to be able to mention to you how much it means to you and to thank them personally. I would appreciate someone donating 50p to us if that is all they had in their back pocket but made the effort just as much as someone giving us £50. It isn't the amount it is the thought but you look a little silly saying thank you for the donation if they didn't do anything and then it shows just how much you took notice.

You could do.............. It is your day and you can do what you like. I think traditionally people send them out afterwards so they can personally thank so and so for blah blah etc but there are no rules to how you do it.

I just spent £5.00 on them to post of the last of the invites! I wouldn't mind but I had 4 invites in one envelope and three normal ones which have to go as large as they are A6 but thick! I then had a normal letter to post too. How bloody expensive!

    jo,

I understand about wanting to write personal thank yous to people but the reason ours is annonomus is we dont want to make people feel they have to give us more than they can afford - at least if they think - Oh they wont know that we only gave them £1. then at least they will only donate what they can.

Most people actually tell us anyway - they say 'Oh i put in so and so' so we do know but I just dont want to presurise poeple.

About Stamps - My mum used 2nd class on everything! First class would be too expensive!

We've put poems in ours because i think it's expected these days, especially if your already living together or have a family like us.
This is the one we put in ours

When thinking of a gift for us
We ask if you’d please consider
    Contributing to our honeymoon
to make it all the sweeter.
Our house is full of all the things
    our family could require,
    and so a holiday away
    is what we most desire.
    Don't go overboard
    or go robbing any banks
    Anything you can afford
will make us smile with thanks.
Then while we're relaxing on the beach
or by the pool so blue
    we'll sit back and know
that it is truly thanks to you!

We bought loads of second class stamps before the price went up a couple of weeks ago. We are sending the invitations out so early, that the extra day or two it takes to get there really won't matter.

I won't be putting a poem in, but will be asking for monetary gifts instead. I think it's fine to ask both sets of guests; I have always given gifts as a day and evening guest.
