For a start I would start with the guests list. How may of them do YOU and the H2B see? Are half of them people you only see at weddings and funerals? If so don't invite them or make them evening only guests. Why should you pay out to feed people who never bother with you any other time? You don't have to invite them just because they share the same bloodline as you.

Also you don't have to add on people's grand kids and kids to invite them. If they are work colleagues then don't invite their spouses just them as they will view it as a works function and sit together in a group. Yes it is nice to invite some of yours/his parents friends but they don't have to be the full list. One or two keep them company is enough.

If you really want them all there then you could invite them to the ceremony and evening do and just invite the nearest and dearest to the sit down meal.

Echo that - Ricky is the Ultimate Bargain Queen and loves it!
All I would say is that I thought by making our invitations we would save loadsamoney! For us (and I know this isn't always the case) it hasn't actually worked out this way. I don't regret it as it's been fun, but I do think it would have worked out cheaper if we'd just ordered them. But they wouldn't have looked so nice :) Hx

Hopefully I'm onto that Heather and I'm going to find a way of giving brides a way of buying them for a lot less or at least making sure that the kits to make them work out at a good price. I hate seeing people rip us off just because we are getting married.

I may be able to help you with sourcing some of you items for the invites. I'm just setting up as a sole trader so I'm making contact with a lot of suppliers at the moment. If you keep the design simple then it will keep the costs down for you. What does look nice and doesn't cost that much is heat embossing. It costs you a couple of quid for the ink pad, £3.00 for the embossing powder (which one tiny pot will do all of them and more) and then you need a heat gun and a stamp which you can get cheaply on ebay. All you do is stamp the card and they sprinkle the powder on top. You heat it up and it raises up and becomes shiny. The metallics work very well and look like proper gold and silver. The diamonds you can get cheaply from ebay to stick on. I have managed to get 40 gold ribbon sliders for £1.40 which adds luxury without breaking the bank.

What ever design you use work out how much it will cost you per card before you even buy the things in. As Heather says the costs can soon mount up if you are not careful.

There's a picture in my albums which has the design we used. They are A5 (so folded A4) ivory linen finished card with a separate ivory sheet inside that we printed ourselves. That's kep in with a piece of rat-tail ribbon tied around the centre and on the front there are 2 midnight blue hearts (our colour) with crystals coming off them. All sourced and bought from bay of e, separately, and my mum went a little overboard with the crystals to begin with (which were the most expensive things and not from bay of e) so ended up costing us more money!
If you add me as a friend, you'll be able to see them Hx

there are loads of b2b on here on a budget so you will get loads of help!

now...the guest list! you have to be brutal! start with immediate family. mum,dad sister etc on both sides. then really close friends! that is all you need there.

just because they are family doesnt mean they have to have an invite to the day! just invite them to the evening!
instead of a sit down meal have a buffet!

and use the bay of e!!! it is amazing! xx

Ive been shopping on ebay and got everything from a cake stand to personalised invites for about £30, you have plenty of time to start buying stuff now and store it away, but I would defo trim the guest lists and in a years time some might not be around anymore..... I meant emigrated not cremated ......good luck and happy shopping!!!!

    Hi Krystal,
I'm 20 too and planning a wedding for next summer :) My budget is £3000 for 70 guests, but i could get it down to about £1300 if i was just doing buffet food, so it depends how tight your budget is and what sort of thing you want. If you don't want to cut down on guests could you limit who comes to the wedding breakfast? Though i completely understand not wanting to leave anyone out. There are some amazing packages out there (one near me does the day for £999!) and never underestimate the skills of your friends - you probably know someone who did photography or floristry at college. I am keeping some cost down by having a second hand dress - it's gorgeous and much more glamourous than i could afford brand new but has only been worn once! I'm making all my own invites and favours, which is really cost effective and quite fun.

    Good luck xxx

hi there i would keep an eye on ebay, as i got my shoes on there brand new in a box for 9 quid and they have a nice vail i am gonna get which is 14 quid. have a look at charity shop shops too as my local bridal shop donates the display dresses when they get new stock to the charity shop and they sell the dresses from £50 upwards (and in the bridal shop they sell for £600 upwards)

I have done all my flowers myself (artificial) for under £60 for my bouquet, 3 bridesmaids, and a fairy wand - pics on my profile. A friend is making the cake, I made all my staionary, my dress was an ex-sample and therefore massively reduced in price.

Also have you thought of maybe having a hog roast or a bbq for the meal as they often work out cheaper.

Maybe you could get guests to chip for things like photographer etc for a wedding present.

Also ebay ebay ebay!! I love it!

I made my own cake topper out of fimo and I am also making the bridesmaid dresses which is saving me a fortune but I agree, ask bridesmaids and ushers to pay for themselves. As long as you make it clear from day 1 you shouldnt have a problem.

Good luck with it all. i love it so much I am dreading it being over.

hi Krystal! I'm doing all my own flowers like yourfirstdancebride but I'm having fresh flowers. Having really simple handtied gerbera bouquets for myself, bridesmaids and centrepieces so that I can make them myself. Also I'm making my own wedding favours, have bought chocolate moulds and am going to make them myself. Thats just 2 little things you could do to help save :o) ooh, also I got my bridesmaids to pay for their own dresses and I'm just buying them a gift each xx

Jeez 145 guests?!?!? You need to get that down love - that is A LOT! Either have a smaller number for your sit down meal in the day and a loads more in the evening or have your daytime later on and don't serve an evening buffet, other than, really searching for bargains on ebay and here will help with the other stuff.

Try pure invitiation and weding crafter (online) for good ideas and bits and pieces for your own invites - and everyone loves Hobbycraft - not to mention ebay!!

Other than that, just pick up on some threads for D.I.Y and bargains etc - you'll soon get sorted.

Oh and congratulations on your engagement

Oh my word... I never expected so many people to get intouch. Thank you sooo much... I will add you all as friends and reply to you all on here one at a time. Im overwhelmed. Thank you soo much. Gunna take a nosey at your piccys everyone if you dont mind me stealing some of your ideas.
My guest list is a massive issue for me, its a bit sad for me really as anthony has such a massive family which is more or less imediate and with me not bein the most favourite person on his mums side and his mum and dad have this like fued its really hard for me to try and keep anthony in the good books. My mum had a wedding many years ago with 200 sit down guests :o ha ha so its quite scary to look at my guest list knowing that 145 at £35 quid per head is expensive, The only person diggin in their pocket for us is my mum and i feel like it wouldnt hurt for them to dig down and just help us with somthing little as ive noticed its the little things that add up. but that mabe a bad look on it??? To be honest im not sure how many of ants mums side will attend there was only one cousin that came to our enagement party from her side and i very much doubt she will attend, i may sound a bit of a witch here but its no skin of my nose if they dont come especially some of his cousins but its really impprtant to him and that makes me a bit torn. Im gunna respond to you all one at a time ha ha as theres so many of you.... Thank you soo much everyone.....responses comin soon.... x

Oh oh found my flower girls dress on ebay.... from america its £11 quid with £9 delivery.... Thats good right??? will add a piccy ( its gone to top of page) x

Heya hun! Add me if you want! Our budget is only about £1000 for the whole day! Our invites that we have the stuff for only cost us £45 mostly from the bay tbf! There are just a few bits in my pics atm and all i have got made up is the inserts for invites! but when they are made properly i will be updating my pics lol!

There are so many things you can do to cut the costs down!
We have asked that our close family and friends help us pay for things as our wedding prezzie!
So far my sister is paying for the buffet on the night
    Mom is paying for photography
best friend is paying for the hotel on the night for us!

We didn't ask directly for people to pay for specific things but we did ask for money instead of prezzies..and people were so generous..it almost paid for the reception..we were very very lucky xxx That could be an idea if you still want to invite a lot of people.

I know it's hard but i agree with other people on here, that you really do need to look at your guest list. I certainly wouldn't invite people I don't know, I don't like and other peoples relatives to our wedding. I personally would kill two birds with one stone and both of you go and see his Mother and father (seeperately obviously) and say that you don't want to upset anyone but you are having to cut the day time guest list as there is no way you can physically pay for everyone and that you wouldn't dream of asking anyone to help. If she wants people there she can pay for them and at £35.00 a head, lets see how much she really wants them there? Don't let other people influence what you have on your wedding day, so if you really want a proper sit down meal then have one, but just cut your numbers.

Well said LIsa..isn't it sad that relatives only come out of the woodwork at weddings and funerals..don't see 'em for dust when you really need them. I would definitely only invite family and friends that mean something to both of you and not people who mean something to someone else. xxx It's your day. xxx

Krystal - your FG dress is gorgeous...and what a BARGAIN!!! Things like that will really help you keep your costs down (I got my tiara/headband of the bay yesterday for 99p and it's stunning!! - not cheap looking which is what I was scared of).

Really think you need to review your guest list though hun - it's not fair of your mum to have to pay for all those people who YOU don't even like.
