how much do church weddings tend to cost? i looked into a cival ceromony at my venue of choice and the cost of a registrar is going to be around £400 does this sound right?

My church is costing £580 hun and that includes flowers, choir, organ etc etc but you can get it cheaper if you dont have all the extras xx

Church weddings can cost between £400-£500 but you get organist and bells with that and sometimes flowers if they have displays out for the Sunday service. Registry office is your cheapest option with £200 ish being the most expensive dependant on your area and time of marriage. Having a registrar coming to your venue to marry you can cost from £340-£400 and then your venue may charge room hire for you ceremony. You have lots of time to put money aside for it but as purpleme said nothing to do with weddings are cheap. Our church didn't charge anything for our 3 children to be christened last year but for a wedding it is a different story altogether! :) xx

Well we are moving soon, not too far from where we live, so we have looked into both the churches. The one where we live at the mo, is £575 and thats just the wedding, no extras. But my mum spoke to the vicar of the church where we will be moving to, cuz that also where she lives and he said £600 and thats everything. Not sure though what evrything is as she didn 't think to ask this. Every one says that having a registar is cheaper, but i think by time you have sorted it all out it's not far off the same price as a church.

We wanted to get married at our venue in the ceremony room and it was £250 to hire which was great but then we got quoted £450 just for the registra and he only has to come 10 mins up the road and thats not including banns, certificates etc :O and on top of that there will be two price increases this april and next so we then looked into marrying at a church and we've found one we love and it will cost £330 inc banns, certificates etc but can have extras like bell ringing for £110, choir £60 etc
But thats in this area its different in others as ladies have experienced on here

I think that if I had a personal choice it would be the church over the registry office. Not because I have anything against them as some are lovely and when my friend got married I was overwhelmed with how beautiful their service was. I just think if it is costing the same money then the church makes for a better back drop on the photos and when you drive past in years to come it will still be there unlike registry offices that tend to get moved about.

mines costing £480 thats with everything included,it would of been £410 but they are charging us extra for heating as its in january x

Thanks Girls well our thoughts at 1st was to get married at the venue, thinking it would be cheaper but its £200 for the room hire and £400 for the registrar. i think looking for a church will be the next job..... how far are people willing to travel between church and reception too? i dont no what is the done thing xxx

If people really want to see you get married they will travel what ever it takes. If they start to kick off and call it hassle then they really shouldn't be there.

my church is just under £400...thats the use of church ministers tine 2xbanns heating electric organist, weve paid £100 deposit now so just under £300 to go!! xxx in regards to travel we plan to lay on a bus from church (in dukinfield) to venue (cheadle) around 23mins... and then a coach for midnight to take guests from cheadle back to dukinfield xx

when my cousin got marries we had to travel for nearly 2 hours to get to the church then another hour to get to the reception then travel home afterwards so if u really want to see people get married u will travel the distance in my opinion anyway xx

OH and I would never consider a church wedding as we're not religious and none of our family are either. We are having a registrar marry us at our chosen venue, the venue is costing us £750 and the registrar £520....a lot when you think about it!

i knew getting married was going to be very expensive, but didnt realise just how expensive it really is. how can they get away with charging £400 to coming to your venue for not even an hour, if the cival ceromony lasts 30 mins that works out £13.30 per min xxxx

No the vicar marries you at a church, he is allowed to do all the religious gubbins. The registrar does the civil ceremony and your not allowed anything which has a religious element/reference.

they all seem to vary but if it helps ours is estimated to be 600 to 650 for a sunday wedding in August???? and then its 900 for the venue for the room for the 30 mins. Dont know if that puts anything in perspective?
