Hi guys......I can't find the style of invites I would like, so I've decided to attempt to make my own stationery.....has anyone else tried it and how easy/difficult did you find it?

    Thanks in advance,

I'm not very artistic, and it seemed like a good idea at the time, but now I'm starting to get a panic on that I make a mess of them.

I made mine. I didn't account for how many mistakes I would make though until someone on here told me to buy loads of extras! Once I'd got the template to print in the right place and practiced tying the bows it was pretty simple. Time consuming but so pleased with the results and soooo cheap compared with bought ones.

Our were really easy to make although I have changed the design since. If I had my craft robo before though they would have been totally different. Just make sure that when you design them that they do work out at a good price as by the time you start adding bits and bobs it can soon become expensive and would be cheaper to buy.

If you use a printer to print the inserts and then stick them in with a glue strip it makes it easier and they look more pro. I also got a personalised stamp that says handmade by Kevin and Jo with our wedding date to make them look more personal.

Peel off's can be a nightmare to stick on straight so you need a ruler and some patience. I used personalised ribbon to get around this although stamps are a good way of doing this too but again its getting them straight. You can use sites like Daisy trail to print off pretty papers which works out cheaper than buying them from the shops.

Try and do a design that is simple and easy to do as you don't want anything that takes forever to make if you have loads to do and you also don't want anything complicated that leads to lots of mistakes. Heat embossing is a great way of getting a good effect without having to spend a lot of money and you can use ribbon, eyelets and brads to create something that looks special. If you go to the daisy trail site it will give you loads of ideas, free papers to print and embellishments.

I want to make our invites, I've seen a style we both like online but they cost almost £4 per invite...err...don't think so! I'm learning to use Photoshop at work so will have a go during my lunchbreaks at some point in the future to design my own. We also have an industrial size printer at the office that uses thick glossy paper, I'm thinking of asking if I can print my designs onto it if I offer to pay towards the cost of the paper and ink

Can't wait until the day I become Mrs. Johnson :)

Im doing my own hopefully will have some pics of them up within the next few days.
I have cut all the bits of card into squares, the ribbon to length the butterflys out etc.Now i just need o stick them all together.
White square, smaller black square glued on top. Then the white(with wording on it) square glued on top of the ivory square, ivory then black ribbon tied around them, then glued on top of the other two squares. Then butterflies and diamontees added.
Sounds alot, but easier to do than try and explain.

    Goodluck

I'm doing our invites...there are some great websites for bits and bobs. I've bought my ribbon and gems for the invites off a website, but getting the card from The W0rk$ as they have great offers on when you look. Just need to research everything and work out if it will actually be cheaper to do your own than buying them. My invites would have cost me around £4.50 each, but I will be able to do them for less than £2 each.

I would love to make my own invites but wouldn't know where to start. I like the pocketfold invites with the seperate rsvps etc. I have never done anything like it before and wouldn't know where to buy the stuff from, how to print or make them!! Maybe I should just stick to buying them and save money elsewhere lol!!

I made my own invites and my MIL2b is doing my OOS for me which I picked the image and font for etc. If I had had to make a lot of invites I probably wouldn't have bothered, but I only had 16 to make so I bought all the stuff for about £20 and spent 6 hours making them. It wasn't difficult just time consuming, but I loved the end result and feel satisfaction whenever one of my friends say they have received it and that it looks pretty. Pics are in my albums. How are you getting on with yours now? x

It is all in the preparation! Materials are very cheap and you should be able to make a fab invite for not much money but you so need some imagination and patience. My w2b makes the most amazing designs so I am lucky but we are making ours together. I am not allowed to do final sticking though as my lines are sometime wonky!!! Must be the vodka!
It is best to have an idea or sample to copy off as you dont want to end up with one that looks like a 5 year old made it!

we were originally going to have them professionally printed....but it's soooo expensive, and we want very simple but elegant postcard invites, with everything else to match.........so we have decided to make them ourselves. I have ordered the stuff I need so once i've had a go at the 1st one i'll post a pic.
No idea if they are gonna be rubbish or easy to make come to think of it....but as we don't marry until 2013....time is on our side to perfect them lol !

    Good luck !

3 of us! Possibly lack of funds and support form family is getting to me but even if we did go with the small weding plan there would only be 20 people paernts etc I don't really see the point in making invitations for them plus if my Nana has an invitaion on her fire place it would be like sticking 2 ingers up at the rest of the family IYKWIM.

Oh I'd still make them, sod what the others think....We're only having 40 people (aunties, uncles, nan, friends) and I'm not bothered about what my cousins think about it - We never see them for a start.

But then if there's only 3 of you, I can see your point. Go with the 20 and make your invites!!
