I never thought it did but today i learnt different. I got up and pulled out the scales and placed them by the bath room door. 11st 11 it said. I thought that cant be right so moved them to where I usually wiegh myself (next to the sink) and it said 11st 6 ... I thought ho strange lol

Lesson of the day .... It DOES matter where you weigh yourself

    never weigh yourself on carpet!!

Always on a flat hard level floor. (make sure it's level!)

Also look after your scales. If you have the traditional manual scale (eg not electronic) dont drop it or damage it - dont keep things on it keeping a weight on it constantly.
Try to keep the scales flat on the floor with nothing putting weight on it etc.

Dropping or damaging the scales you may not notice a difference but I really believe it messes up the mechanics and it wont be accurate.

I weighed myself last week in my living room where it is carpet and in two location in that room I dropped another 6 lbs but this morning I weighed myself on flat hard floor and since I've started paying attention to what I eat (9 weeks) I have lost about 9 lbs, so very happy as I have until beginning of January 2012 to lose about 45 lbs :)

Told this to H2B and he reckons its something to do with the support on the floor, near the door there would be more support for the flooring. Really he said a lot more technical stuff than that but I lost interest.... all to do with weight distribution blah blah blah..... wish I never mentioned it now! He said weigh on the largest based scales you can (like big medical scales) on a concrete floor. And whilst not eating cake. LOL

I've noticed though that you can leave them in the same place, step on, step off and when you step back on a few minutes later they can read differently too. I ended up getting rid of my old ones and getting a more expensive one that doesn't do it so much. Then again I like the reading now as it is saying I've lost 3lbs over the last week since I started my diet! Yay!

when i read the title i thought you meant where as in home/gym/tesco etc

so i need to point out general location matters as well. Boots are well known for having their machines rigged to make you seem heavier.... with their weightloss plan products right next to the scales. Criminal.

I weighed myself at boots once was near in tears then a little while later reweighed myself in tesco and i was HALF A STONE lighter

i always warn people off the boots weighing machines now

= O can't even believe that about boots! My Mum has been losing weight pretty much all of my life after having 4 children, she is gorgeously slim now and we can share clothes! But every week I would walk to boots with her and see her get so upset because her weight wasn't what she wanted, I'm actually furious! People put their heart and soul into losing weight, how can they do that? I can't wait to ring my mum and tell her this! Thanks for the tip! = ) xxx

I bought weight watchers scales from asda and they live under my sink and I just pull them out when I need them. Not sure why today I took them near the door. I nearly died when I saw 11st 11 pop up. From now on I will weigh myself near the sink lol.

Thats terrible about boots. It must illegal to do that, surely it is??????

The thing that gets it for me is... there are so many young girls who are already super skinny that i see using the things. Surely that doesn't help the process of thought that leads to anorexia.

I think its about time people stopped looking at scales and looked in the mirror. They should go on body shape not weight. I know I need to lose weight by looking at myself but there is no way on this earth I could ever be 10 stone as I would look ill yet to say 10 stone to some women they would think you were obese.

I always weigh myself on a Monday morning, same spot in the bathroom and just before I have a shower. I think it's important to try and keep everything the same, so that if the scales do go up then the only person to blame is me!! Doing well so far though, lost 1st 2lbs since January :-) Keeping it going is hard though, think this is the longest I've ever really stuck to a 'diet' - although haven't been really strict and I think that's whats helping me keep going, that and the exercise!

I wish I could put our scales on a hard floor, our whole house is carpeted, even the bathroom and kitchen (grim I know but it's a rented house)

Short of standing in the garden naked theres not much else I can do!

That makes sense, I weigh myself in the bathroom in the morning and it says the same thing most of the time, but when I weigh myself on the Wii in the living room I am lighter, so I go with the Wii, lol. Still can't shift more than a couple of pounds though no matter where and when I weigh myself, oh well, can't give up, not long left now to be defeatist! :) x

I always weight myself in the morning after first wee but I have noticed that sometimes it says I've put on a pound etc then the next day I will have drop say a pound and a half. I think it also depends on when you have been for a poo and how much your dinners in between weighed. I guess that is why they say you should only weight once a week and not every day like I do. I know its bad but its the only way I stay focused on what I eat.

I always use the Wii - manual scales vary too much for my liking lol.
But I agree with the others, my mum went on a diet and dropped to a size 10 but she didn't like it because she looked so scrawny - now she's a 12 and a zumba instructor :)
I found dieting alone made me loose weight in the wrong places too (boobs & tummy) not where I wanted! (THIGHS lol)
So now I just eat better and do more targeted exercise - no giving up my beloved pasta yeyy :) xx

I was a slimming consultant years ago after dropping 4 1/2 stone in just over 6 months ( no faddy diet just eating properly) The rules on weighing yourself are simple - it doesnt matter what scales you use or where you weigh yourself because if all your weigh ins are from the same scales/place you will see how much weigh you have lost. Carpets do make a difference but if thats where you first measured yourself that becomes your starting weight. The second most important thing is to only weigh yourself once a week and at the same time. During a day your weight can fluctuate up to 6 lbs and although you are desperate to lose it weighing yourself once a week gives you an accurate picture. You should also take your measurements - bust / hips / waist plus upper arms and thighs and then every month re measure as sometimes you may not lose much in pounds but in inches. For those either starting to eat more healthily or who need to kick start a diet a food diary really helps, put down anything and everything as you would be amazed how much you "forget" putting passed your lips.

i only weigh myself once a week on a tuesday evening when i go to slimming world. i always thought i wanted to get to a certain weight but i know i am ok with my weigh when i can get a pair of trousers on for work and a pair of jeans. i have had them a few years now but they got to tight but they fit again now and i am happy.

I think it is hard to say you want to get to a certain size though as all clothes vary. some all my tops are a 10 and fit fine but my trousers vary from an 8 which fit fine to a 12 which also fit fine! i think it is so strange but i am only just starting to realise that it doensnt matter what size the labels say! xx
