Just wanted to raise the topic and see what peoples experience is, h2b and me where recommended to go on this course by our vicar, the course was 2 days at the weekend in Feb and h2b isn't really used to going to church so was not looking forward to it at all :( I thought it would be a bit churchy but useful :)

We went to the course and to be honest we were really surprised, we got the chance to talk through loads of useful stuff like boundaries, issues, good things, bad things, resolving conflicts, having a happy marriage ect.... we didn't have to share stuff in front of the group, it involved lots of private time to go through our relationship and you go through a little book with mini exercises in, also in true church fashion there was lots of cake! h2b was happy with this :)

On the last day we were invited to run through a full service so we were prepared for what would happen and we could ask loads of questions about each part of the service, this was great. At the end of the course the vicar gave a little speech that of course the wedding day was exciting but remember to be excited and to invest in the actual marriage as well as the wedding day as that will be over in just a day and your marriage will hopefully last forever - I thought this was a nice point to make and it helps me to put things in perspective when I get a bit stressed over arrangements, people ect .....

We've been told we need to do a marriage prep course but were told I could go alone (H2B works 7 days just now). Didnt realise at that time that you can only do it so far in advance... dont really want to be going alone but sounds like it could be a good thing for us to do too. Didnt see the point at first as we've already been living together for 3 years x

Yeah it was really great :)

I guess you could do it alone and take the book home and work through it when you have some sit down time, my h2b was trying to talk me out of it as he had to book a couple of days off work too! but when we go see our friends now and they take the mic out of our 'couples retreat' he really defends it as a good thing to do even for our friends that are having a civil service x

I had best not tell the h2b you had cake because when I drag him there to ours if they don't have any that is all I will hear him moan about haha.
